Thanks for the memories!
Twelve years ago, we embarked on an adventure that made us braver, smarter, and kinder!
After chartering other boats for many years, we started looking for a boat of our own. We bought a 35-foot Catalina sailboat and renamed her Alibi. Dan and Phil got their captain's license and we set sail.
As we look back at her log, we are reminded of many of the memories Alibi helped us make and the many people who sailed with us (forgive us if we forgot to include you in this list).
Family first of course, all of our children and their significant others and, over the years, all of the six grandchildren who love “Papa’s Boat.” Some of the first memories were with extended family – Karen and Rod, Adam and Katie, Mark and Debbie and Lindsay, Gary and Alice and neighbors – Debbie and Mickey, Kim and Tony and Carly and Jason.
We cherish the times we spent with some of our closest friends – Doris and Larry, and Karen and Mike. In addition, Pat and Vicki, Skip and Linda, Alyssa, Mike and Diana, Carol, Andre, Claudia, and Dominick, John and Jackie, and Tim and Marlene. One of our most memorable long sails, we sailed over to Chicago to see another dear friend, JJ, her daughter Gretchen, and granddaughter Maddie.
We relished an engagement on the bow with a professional photographer, a bachelor party, and sailing with United Way raffle winners as well as Innocademy teachers, Disher teams, Haworth friends, Paul and his sons Blake and Skye.
We appreciate Phil and Kelsi for helping to make Beam Reach Sailing a reality and to all their friends and family they sailed with – Jack, Scotty and Cheri, Nick, Brittany, Tyler, Luke and Kari, Gerrett, Steve and Marian, Curtis, Brittany and Cheri, Peter and Liz, Kelley and Shawn, Justin and Kristi, Nathan and Cassie, Mark and Kim, and Brandon and Nick.
As we sit here listening to the water lapping against her hull and watch her sails fill with wind, we forget the spiders and the flies, running aground in our early days, and days with no wind. Instead we are reminded of some of our favorite times – sunset sails, swimming in the big lake, fireworks, and watching our grandchildren launch the simple little wooden boat from her stern.
Our time is coming to a close and she is For Sale (SOLD)! Phil and Kelsi and family have spent three weeks traveling to Mackinac Island and creating wonderful memories. Dan and I are sailing her home and have enjoyed exploring the coastal towns along Lake Michigan.
