Our Legacy, Our Family, Our Future

Through thick and thin I Kitagawa and Co. has been here for our Big Island community.

In 1980 Brian Kitagawa assumed the role of president of I Kitagawa and Co.

Brain Kitagawa understood the pioneering spirit and heritage of the men who built the business before him and was determined to keep adapting.

In the 1990s I Kitagawa and Co. acquired the Jeep-Eagle franchise and added the Jeep-Eagle vehicles to the lot.

Also in the 1990s I Kitagawa and Co. consolidated its 2 locations located in Captain Cook and Kailua-Kona in West Hawaii and renamed it Kona Auto Center where they built 2 separate buildings one to house the Chrysler manufactured vehicles and the other to house the Nissan vehicles. (Kona Auto Center Kona Nissan)

Brian's spirit and legacy is the cherished gift to his family.

Through thick and thin I Kitagawa and Co. has been here for our Big Island Community for 115 Years.

In 1960 Iwao Kitagawa became the president of I Kitagawa and Co. and moved the company into a makeshift garage on Ponahawai Street until they built a new showroom and service center at 400 E. Kawili Street, which is now known as Kama'aina Motors.

During the 1960 I Kitagawa and Co. open up a NAPA AUTO PARTS (Parts Center Hawaii) in Captain Cook and In Kona.

In 1966 I Kitagawa and Co. obtain the Datsun franchise, which is now known as Nissan, from vonHam-Young, and still continues to sell the Nissan Brand in Keaukaha as Kamaaina Nissan.

In the 1980s Iwao Stepped down as president and his son Brian Kitagawa assumed the role as president of I Kitagawa and Co....

Till this day we still have a couple of employees that were here when Iwao was president and remember him dearly

Through thick and thin I Kitagawa and Co. has been here for our Big Island community.

In 1946 Tsutae Kitagawa became president of I Kitagawa and Co. In the same year the 1946 Hilo tsunami destroyed the original location but fortunately the Piopio street location finished construction later that year.

But then yet again, a disaster struck and on May 23rd 1960 a tsunami hit Hilo once again and destroyed the Piopio street location.

That same year Tsutae appointed his son Iwao Kitagawa as the company president...
