Fix of the month: A new customer came in with a concern about brake noise. Our Technician performed a brake inspection and after taking all the equipment off didn’t notice anything obvious and the assumption was brake dust was causing the noise. After reaassembling the brakes and attaching the wheels they were pulling the car out of the bay when they heard a noise upon braking. Instead of ignoring it our technician pulled the vehicle back into the bay and took another look. It took some time but they eventually found the cause. The noise was caused by a situation where the brake clips had been rubbing against the rotors and slight wear tracks could be seen in the clips. We replaced the hardware and resolved the noise highlighting how great our technicians are. They really take pride in doing quality work and not kicking the can down the road. Clay’s Auto Service fix of the month: A customer came in and said they were hearing a thumping noise every time they turned on their AC and heater. Well, our technician found the cause of the sound. An unfortunate rodent tried to use the blower motor as an exercise wheel and couldn’t keep up with it. Come on in and see what Clay’s Auto Service can do for you.

Clay’s Auto Service Fix of the Week: Feels like we were just here and said we’d never do it again. Yet here we are taking the top off another vehicle. This time a Chevy Camper Astrovan; putting in a new engine due to a blown rod or two. Check out the pictures, it really did some damage. But thanks to the tireless efforts of our tech, unlike Humpty Dumpty, we did get all the pieces put back together again and the van left humming as did the owner. Clays Auto Service fix of the week: Ever wonder what an ethanol fuel will do to your system? It’s pretty much like sugar to a human body. We can’t get enough of it but it is really bad for us. It leaves a sticky residue that can gum up your intake. Fortunately in this case we were able to clean it up for our customer.

Clays Auto Service fix of the week: They don’t make them like they used to or rather they flat out just don’t make them anymore. A customer brought their older vehicle in with an inoperable heater. The issue was with their electronic board where the heater control k**b had become severed from the board. Great, cause identified. The problem was the part was no longer being made. So, the team broke the problem down to its component parts, literally and soldered the wiring back together. Viola, like magic it was back to working condition. Another example of Clay’s technicians finding ways to serve our great customers and keep their vehicles running longer.

Clays Auto Service fix of the week: The technicians ended up having to take the top off of this rig in order to replace an exhaust manifold. With today’s modern engineering the engine compartments are so compact that you just can’t get to these components any longer without having to remove the cab. When I walked into the shop after they got it off I did a double take because that isn’t som**hing you see every day.

Clay’s Auto Service Fix of the Week: Need a solution for this cold weather? In parts of the country that get much colder than Oregon, and stay colder for much longer, they resort to interesting customizations such as this. Check out the three prong quad outlet attached to the frame. How is it powered you ask? Well, that’s where the plug coming out of the front grill comes in. This plugs into a wall outlet, powering the whole array with a heater strapped in. Stay warm and hopefully we don’t have temperatures in the teens for a long time.
