This ABS light ended up having a pretty wild explanation… 😳
This Jeep came in with an ABS light and a nasty rattle from the rear.
While doing my included full-vehicle inspection, I noticed something strange…
The driver’s side parking brake cable wasn’t attached to anything. 🤔
That got me suspicious.
I started taking the rear brake apart and sure enough…
The parking brake shoes and hardware were completely GONE. 😳
The actuator had been left behind, eventually fell off the end of the cable and started bouncing around inside the rotor. It then smashed into the ABS tone ring on the axle, causing the ABS fault and ultimately requiring the axle to be replaced.
Then I opened up the passenger side…
Same thing. No shoes. No hardware. No parking brake. Luckily the actuator was still hooked up to the cable or the same thing would have happened on the other side. It was only a matter of time.
A pretty good example of how leaving something unfinished can turn into a much bigger repair down the road.
New axle, complete parking brakes on both sides, and everything is back the way it should be. 🔧
