“To the Citizens of Brown County” mural after the January 2025 Blizzard

2022 we saw not one but two amazing murals painted in Hiawatha! Adding to the beauty of the beautiful city of maples! We have multiple public works of art to see as well as exploring our historic downtown!

Make sure to stop & take a photo with the “To the Citizens of Brown County” mural at 825 Oregon Street in Hiawatha, KS!

This fabulous depiction of a train coming through our maple trees flanked by our original street lamps (that were created by the former local Hiawatha foundry) in town. This stunning work was created by muralists Mike Trujillo, Whitney Kerr, Chase Hunter, Quin Vraspier, & David Bonilla.

It’s a gorgeous sight as you drive down Oregon street! Then make sure you stay a while to shop, eat and explore Hiawatha, Kansas.

Noah Webster once said, “In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate – look to his character. . . . When a citizen gives his suffrage [vote] to a man of known immorality he abuses his trust; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor, he betrays the interest of his country."
George Barna recently conducted a poll in which he found that 49% of people of faith do not plan to vote in this election. That alone is enough to turn the tide of public policy for future generations! While we fully recognize that Jesus is the only One Who saves, we, as Christians are called to be the salt and light (Matthew 5:13) in every area of our lives. "Let us not become weary in doing good" (Galatians 6:9) and fall into the trap of not voting because none of the candidates align completely with the values we hold dear. Instead, let us continue to be the faithful stewards of this great nation God has given us!

A few of the Biblical qualifications for leaders are that they be “able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.” (Exodus 18:21)

We, the People are Responsible! 🗳️

Register to Vote!

In 1877 President James Garfield, wrote these words:

“Now more than ever before the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. . . . if the next centennial does not find us a great nation . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

President Garfield believed that this was of utmost importance in his day and age. It was true then and it is still true today. It is time for Christians to stand up and take the lead in our nation. Will we determine to have an intelligent, brave and pure nation, or will we watch as it continues to fall into ignorance, recklessness and corruption? We, the people, are responsible to vote for God fearing, God honoring leaders for our nation.

If you are already registered to vote, that is great! Remember, make sure you are registered to vote.

Your voter registration deadline is October 15, 2024.

LOST OF RESPECT! Listen up!

We see in our society today children who refuse to obey their parents, and parents not willing to train up their children. We see it in our streets and on the news daily.

We see the lack of respect by employees to do the job their boss asks them to. They work to just get by or only when they are being watched.

We are to do our jobs like we are working for God (which we are).

He tells those in charge to treat those under them with respect. They are to remember God is watching and He doesn't give preferential treatment of one over another.

The Kicker: God is speaking to Christians. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” 🤔 Christian, let’s examine ourselves by the Word of God and be sure we are obeying His commands.

Ephesians 6:1-10 kjv
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Signing the United States Constitution

On September 17th we celebrate Constitution Day! Thirty-nine of the Founding Fathers signed the US Constitution on that day in 1787.
Significantly, many of the delegates directly involved in writing the Constitution acknowledged the hand of Divine Providence for this work. For example, Alexander Hamilton said:

For my own part, I sincerely esteem it a system which without the finger of God could never have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests.

Today, we celebrate the United States Constitution and acknowledge God for His goodness in sustaining America as the longest on-going constitutional republic in the world. We encourage you to take time to: 1) read the Constitution, and 2) learn more about this document and the people involved in its creation.
Another way to remember the US Constitution and the Founding Fathers is to come see the newest exhibit at the WallBuilders’ Museum which includes original documents from all 39 signers of the US Constitution!

TAXES TAXES!!! WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO SPEAK UP!!

We know not everyone is a public speaker but you can make a stand by showing up at these meetings.

Your ACTION is needed! If you are concerned about the schools, cities & Brown County exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate and continuing to increase taxes, your time to SPEAK OUT and BE HEARD is NOW. You do not have to be on the agenda to speak as these are hearings not meetings. All have the right to be heard.

Below are the hearing dates regarding each entity. First is the county hearing, followed by the city & school hearings. Can't attend them all, then pick one. Can't attend any meeting(s) in person, then start emailing and calling those who make the decisions.
