Thomas and Elsie Harvey retired to Hiawassee in 1977 after raising their 3 children in Stockbridge, Ga. Thomas, a WWII Vet went to work for the CCCs after the war. He helped develop Vogel State Park in Blairsville, GA and always wanted to settle in the North Georgia Mountains and run his own campground. He and Elsie bought an old farmhouse and some land and turned the place into Mountain View Camp

ground. Taking advantage of the quiet neighborhood surrounding the campground and gorgeous backdrop of Swallows Creek Wildlife Reserve, the park needed few amenities. Families loved the simplicity of the space and the unbridled hospitality of Tom and Elsie. In 1983, the couple's two grandsons, Wyatt & Matt, came to live with them. Tom and Elsie encouraged their grandsons to learn the popular mountain activity of clog-dancing and built a Music Barn on the property so the boys could entertain campers and locals with their twin fiddles and harmonies. The Music Barn also provided a gathering place for Tom & Elsie's Fish Frys and BBQs. When Elsie passed away in October 2002, the campground was full of campers most of whom had been regular campers for years. The wonderful support of Tom's camping community was a testament to the love and respect that the couple had cultivated throughout the years. Tom continued to run Mountain View Campground until he passed away in 2013 at the age of 91.

Notice! For the 2027 season we will be opening 4 seasonal sites (7 months)from April 15th to November 15th for $850.00 per month + electric. Two of these sites have already been spoken for, but we have site #25 (which accommodates a 24' rig + tow, and site #26 which accommodates a 30'rig + tow still available. (Note: #26 is restricted to no slides and potentially no awning, depending on where the awning is located on the rig.) Call the campground number during campground hours if interested! 706-970-2112

Struck By Lightning 2 You guys are always so accommodating to our line dancers!! Thank you!! Soooo much fun last night!! Brian and Marybeth taught their little hearts out this week...in kinda' hot, sticky weather too! Everyone had a great time both learning and dancing under the stars. Gosh, folks ...we've been so busy having fun, I've failed to post for two weeks! Bad Pj! :( We've been "arting", singing, bonfiring, dancing, hot air ballooning, card playing, and more dancing!! A big Thank You especially this past weekend to Brian and Marybeth for their excellent line dance instruction culminating in dancing to the tunes by Struck By Lightning 2!! You guys rocked the campground as per usual...Thank you!!

Well, folks this week was the First Annual Joey Reece Corn Hole Championship and man did we all have fun! Thank you to both Joey and Renea Reece for coordinating this! (Thank you to Judy Cawthon for the pics!!) When campers weren't competing at Corn Hole, there were birthday celebrations, winery visits, waterfall hikes, ping pong, and many evenings on the Rocking Porch. All in all everyone stayed busy doing all things "fun"!! :)

Wow! What an action packed second weekend! Let's start with Thursday- music, bonfire, s'mores, and hot diggity's by the community bonfire!! A HUGE thank you to Beth Barkhau for her sweet, gentle painting guidance. Everyone created beautiful paintings under her excellent teaching- xoxo.
