Timeless Boat Works

Timeless Boat Works Timeless Boat Works specializes in the building and restoration of small, traditional, wooden boats of classic and timeless design.

Recently established by boatwright and woodworker, Kevin Pagliuca, Timeless Boat Works specializes in the building and restoration of small, traditional, wooden boats of classic and timeless design. Wooden boats, with their curved form and functional beauty, are truly magnificent and, as some say, have a soul of their own. They have evolved to what they are today having been hand crafted and sailed for centuries. If you want an wooden boat of your own, you'll find that you can’t go down to your local marine dealer and purchase one as they’re not mass-produced. Instead you’ll need to commission a boatwright to build you one, or buy a good used one. Or if you have the time, skills, and ambition, you can restore one yourself, or even build your own. Today, there are many boatwrights with their own boat shops that are found mostly on the Northeast Coast or on the Pacific Northwest coasts, and there a few scattered in between. All these craftsmen have one thing in common, they build these beautiful works of art for the passion of it and do their best to make a living at it. Timeless Boat Works is no different. Timeless Boat Works is specifically interested in wooden hull designs developed in the early 1900‘s, when small, low-powered, outboard motors were first available, as well as classic daysailers. Given today’s high cost of fuel, these older, well established designs are truly “timeless” to both the eye and efficiency. In building a hull design of yesteryear, using both traditional and modern composite boatbuilding techniques, and then outfitting it with a low-powered, fuel efficient, low emission outboard engine results is a truly unique, beautiful, green, and economical wooden boat that one would be proud to own. Located in the Duluth, Minnesota, area, just a short distance from the shoreline of Lake Superior, Timeless Boat Works is dedicated to preserving the wooden boat, plank-on-frame, hand craftsmanship skills that were developed long, long ago.

Interesting thoughts...
Is wooden boat building a political act?

This essay has been translated into Spanish. A few days ago in Stockholm I was walking by the water and was accosted by a youngish man from Ireland who shouted out my name. This is not something that happens to me often –-- apparently he is among that small subset of humanity that has read my book…

Good advice... love the statement me makes in tossing a router in the trash can.

Period furniture maker Philip C. Lowe demonstrates the right way to use your bench chisel when paring joinery and mortising for hinges.

I remember my boat school instructor explaining to us students that it takes just as long to apply finish (paint & varnish) to a boat as it does to build one. Walter J. Simmons verifies this in his book called Finishing. And so it goes with the CC Dory project. While the actual job of painting take…

The most involved part of the project is now complete... a new bottom. I'm very pleased with the results. The new bottom is made of expensive Okoume marine grade (BS1088) plywood. I choose the Okoume because the bottom of this boat is convex shaped with the bow end having some extreme curvature requ…

Its been awhile... but back at work on the Chris Craft Dory... here's my latest Builder's Log entry:

After a two-month break of sorts (worked off and on over the holidays) its time to refocus and get back to work full-time in order to have this boat ready for the water this spring. The Thanksgiving deadline turned out to be far too optimistic, as the project scope expanded.
