As it wears down, the tire needs more distance to do the same job in the rain, and the change happens gradually enough that you adapt to it without noticing. If the top of the head is fully visible at any of the three points, that tire is worth having measured properly rather than guessed at. Check the inner edge as well as the centre. Uneven wear usually points to alignment or inflation rather than to the tire itself.
