Story time. Customer calls me yesterday and asks if I can replace her windshield. It’s 3 in the afternoon and the distributors are closed, so I inform the customer that it will be Monday before I could do anything.
She then lets me know that Safelite had just left after removing HALF of her windshield and told her she would just have to call someone else. That technician was perfectly fine with leaving this lady with a half removed windshield, for two days!!
I told her to call the technician and ask him to come back, and that I would meet him there and remove the windshield for him. He informs the customer that he can’t do that, because he will be fired. So fired if I come help him, but he won’t be fired if he leaves a customer with a half removed windshield. Yall pay attention now.
After a couple back and forths, we got the technician to agree to at least bring the windshield back. The customer bought the glass from Safelite, and he did indeed bring it back.
I arrived to a damaged vehicle. Broken clips, torn headliner, and damaged A-pillar. And a half cut out windshield. That means he attempted to cut it out, got halfway there and just gave up. His tools could not remove the windshield. The technician is only allowed a wire tool, and steel wire with T handles.
This is the safelite way, and independent shops need consumers to understand that. They do not care about you, your safety, or your vehicle.
Safelite you should be ashamed. Send your technicians out to work without the tools they need to do the work, then try to proclaim to be the standard of auto glass.
I’m angry at both the company and the technician. I’ve been there. I got my start that company. I had plenty of jobs that almost broke me. One of my first windshields that I did as a rookie was a 95 Silverado that was caved in. Took me nearly 6 hours on a Saturday. But you can’t just give up halfway through and send people to the wolves.
And Safelite, you just suck.
P.S. Jacob, if you want your drill back: hit me up. I’ll get it to you.
