2000 Lexus with a 3.0l, has a fault code p0171 (fuel trim system too lean). Scan tool data shows the fuel system on bank 2 is adding fuel and bank 1 is subtracting fuel. We initially found a loose intake manifold bolt on cylinder 4 and figured that was the issue. We used a smoke machine to check for any intake leaks and found non. We then tightened the bolt to spec and checked fuel trims again. We still had the same issue. We then checked the exhaust system for leaks and found one. Right next the the upstream AF sensor is two cracks in the exhaust manifold.

Customer states their battery goes dead overnight. We found a 1.2-2 amp draw on the electrical system after the electronics on the vehicle go to sleep. We have found the problem and confirmed it with the thermal camera.

We had a good find the other day. Ram pickup with a 5.7l hemi engine. Customer complaint was of the engine not wanting to idle and having to keep giving the engine throttle in order for it to stay running. Live data from the scan tool had shown us that cylinders 1,2,3 were contributing as they should. Cylinders 4,6,7 were effected slightly and cylinders 5,8 were not contributing at all. We found this odd and decided to do a “clear flood” crank which revealed to us an odd cranking cadence that sounded a lot like a cylinder that had no compression. We checked cylinder compression on 8 and 5 and found 5 to have ZERO compression. We then removed one of the spark plugs from cylinder 5 and used a camera to peak around and found that the intake valve on that cylinder was opened and never closed while manual turning the crankshaft. We then called the customer to get the ok to remove the valve cover to inspect the valvetrain. Our inspection shows a broken intake valve spring and a bent pushrod. We sadly do not have a photo of the pushrod.
