25 years ago tonight, families were getting ready for bed. Parents were tucking their children in. First responders were preparing for their next shift. People were making plans for work, school, and another ordinary Tuesday.
No one knew that when the sun came up the next morning, September 11, 2001, their lives—and our nation—would change forever.
Some people said “goodnight” to a loved one for the last time. Some first responders went to bed not knowing that the next day they would answer the call of a lifetime. Families went to sleep whole, never imagining the heartbreak that awaited them.
Tomorrow, we remember the innocent lives lost, the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and countless others who answered the call, and the families who have carried their loss for 25 years.
May we never forget the courage shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy, the heroes who ran toward danger while others were running away, and the way our nation came together in the days that followed.
🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — 25 years later, we still remember.
Never Forget. 9/11/01. 🇺🇸
