Auditory processing describes how your brain processes what you hear. How long it takes you to comprehend what you’ve heard. Autism often is associated with auditory processing challenges, so following directions in real time is tough. Accomplishing a complex task like following instructions while also leading a horse and being aware of where the two of you are in relation to space and each other is kind of a big deal.

This moment was about two years in the making. Mahdi has difficulty with fine motor coordination as well as eye-hand coordination. And he’s been working on manipulating small clips like this one, the one on Johnny’s halter, and ones you typically find on a dog leash. Today, for the first time, he was able to properly position the bucket and clip, and then use his thump to pull down the clasp, and maneuver it to the precise spot where he could clip it onto the eye hook 100% INDEPENDENTLY!!!! This is such a BIG DEAL! I hope he’s proud of himself!

We want to give the biggest shout out/gratitude to Ted over at Four Winds Farm for giving Mahdi what might go down in history as THE BEST DAY EVER by showing him how to, and letting him use the leaf blower to clean the barn aisle! Ted honestly is so fantastic. He sees the value in Mahdi doing chores there, and speaks to Mahdi like a young man, not a child. THANK YOU TED

So proud of the progress Mahdi has made! With only a prompt to stand facing the proper direction, he now picks all four of Johnny’s feet independently. It takes a LOT of coordination and focus to hold the pick and foot properly, and how to stand correctly as well.
