The engine shown is a rare McLaren-prepared Chevrolet racing V8, a modified 5.9-liter big-block developed for the legendary McLaren M6A program. Built during the peak of Can-Am innovation, the powerplant combined Chevrolet’s rugged V8 architecture with McLaren’s in-house engineering refinements, turning it into a purpose-built competition engine.

McLaren engineers designed a specialized fuel-injection system to maximize airflow and throttle response, allowing the engine to deliver explosive high-RPM performance while maintaining endurance reliability. The bold valve cover script reflects the collaboration between McLaren and Chevrolet, a partnership that helped dominate North American road racing in the late 1960s.

This engine represents an era when lightweight chassis and massive V8 power defined Can-Am racing. With extreme horsepower, minimal restrictions, and constant experimentation, engines like this became icons of unlimited racing engineering, blending American displacement with British chassis innovation into one of the most feared combinations on track.

This was a Transmission replacement we did on a 2015 Ford Escape eco boost last month, the job is pretty involved. Wouldn’t be the first one and doubt it will be the last.
