HOPEFULLY THE FINAL UPDATE FOR AWHILE ON STATE INSPECTIONS

This is an article directly from the Attorney General.

NEWS RELEASE:
Subject: Vehicle Inspection Program Public Guidance

Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Justice and Department of Safety are providing a further update on the state’s vehicle inspection program in response to the federal District Court’s January 27, 2026 preliminary injunction order:

• The vehicle inspection program is suspended until further notice.
• Inspection stations will no longer be authorized to issue state inspection stickers and vehicles will not be required to obtain an annual state inspection at this time.
• Drivers are still responsible under current law to ensure that any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program

The State will update its public guidance on vehicle inspections as more information becomes available and will provide additional regulatory flexibility as needed in the event of future changes, including further deadline extensions should the program resume. At this time, the public is reminded that they are responsible under current law to ensure that any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program. Vehicle safety requirements are set forth in New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated (RSA) Chapter 266.

So again, there are no more inspections, and we will not be able to issue stickers. If you would like an inspection, we can still provide you with one and we are currently working on a sticker of our own to issue.

If you have your vehicle regularly maintained, we will always go over it and let you know of any work that is needed at that time or in the future.

UPDATE ABOUT STATE INSPECTIONS

State Inspections are still required until further notice.

This week the court has made an injunction on this case. The emissions company Gordon Darby has sued the state of NH. NH would be in violation of the federal government.

As a result of the preliminary injunction:

The existing vehicle inspection program remains in effect

Annual safety and emissions inspections are still required and should be conducted responsibly in compliance with the laws & rules

Inspection stations should continue operating as usual

Inspection stickers remain mandatory, including beyond January 31, 2026

In practical terms, the injunction preserves the status quo and prevents the repeal from taking effect until the court resolves the underlying legal issues or the State gets a response from the EPA.

State Inspections

Will be ending January 31, 2026

Here are questions I have been asked.

What do we do?

You can choose not to get an inspection. Most repair garages, including ourselves will still be offering them. We will still charge $45.00. It still takes time about ½ hour to perform.

What about the sticker?

You can remove it or leave it. We have not been given any guidance on this from the state. I do know we have been asked to turn in all our stickers to the state. So, we will no longer have them

Part 2 of this question. How will I know or remember?

We are working on making a sticker for this purpose if you would like one. You can still get an inspection when you get your car registered.
If you have your car regularly serviced or at least maintenance services done here or at the dealership. Not so much quick l***s. We always check over your car. Make sure everything is good and to warn you of future repaired so you can plan accordingly. I think we all know the dealerships do this bc I get the book of repairs you need all the time.

I will be doing a series of post explaining about inspections. Each week I will go into depth for each component. If you leave questions I will try to address those also. To start here is a list of what is checked in an inspection.

This is directly for the State of NH DMV website. Here is the link giving you more information. https://www.gc.nh.gov/rules/state_agencies/saf-c3200.html

Well cannot say I agree with this.
While the state inspection program was being changed to accommodate everyone. They just added it at the last minute attached to the budget. Apparently this is how things are done now. Not thought through and come up with a plan everyone can agree on.
To all our customers and non customers when you bring your car in we will always check it over. Let you know what is coming up. Especially now that this has passed.

Have a great weekend!

UPDATE: Soon, New Hampshire will no longer require that vehicles be inspected every year. This is now a reality now that Gov. Kelly Ayotte has signed the state budget into law. It will take effect early next year: https://www.wmur.com/article/new-hampshire-vehicle-inspections-62725/65223243
