Did you know not all trailers are verified for compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards? 🤯 NATM has made it easier for consumers, dealers, and manufacturers to ensure compliance with these safety standards through its Compliance Verification Program (CVP).

Trailers built by manufacturers who have successfully completed the CVP process have affixed to their frames the NATM compliance decal – an outward sign of safety. When looking to purchase a new trailer, look for the mark!

Vehicle manufacturers provide a “tow rating” in their owner’s manuals which provides the maximum weight the tow vehicle can tow when fully loaded. The GVWR of the trailer should never exceed the tow rating of the tow vehicle, even if the trailer is not loaded to its maximum capacity.

Did you know that safety chains are your first line of defense if the trailer detaches? An important step in the hitching process is properly setting up safety chains.

Follow these 3 MUSTS the next time you're preparing to tow:
❌ Cross safety chains underneath the coupler.
⚠️ Allow slack for the trailer to turn.
⛓️ Attach chain hooks securely to the tow vehicle frame.
