Tips for Driving in the Snow

Drive slowly. Always adjust your speed down to account for lower traction when driving on snow or ice.

Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Apply the gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids. Don’t try to get moving in a hurry and take time to slow down for a stoplight. Remember: It takes longer to slow down on icy roads.

Know your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, keep the heel of your foot on the floor and use the ball of your foot to apply firm, steady pressure on the brake pedal.

Don’t stop if you can avoid it. There’s a big difference in the amount of inertia it takes to start moving from a full stop versus how much it takes to get moving while still rolling. If you can slow down enough to keep rolling until a traffic light changes, do it.

Don’t power up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads will just make your wheels spin. Try to get a little inertia going before you reach the hill and let that inertia carry you to the top. As you reach the crest of the hill, reduce your speed and proceed downhill slowly.

Don’t stop going up a hill. There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Get some inertia going on a flat roadway before you take on the hill.

Wet pavement contributes to nearly 1.2 million traffic crashes each year.
Here are some tips you’ll want to follow the next time you’re caught driving in the rain.
Safety starts before you drive, and your goal should be to see and be seen. Replace windshield wiper inserts that leave streaks or don’t clear the glass in a single swipe. Make sure all headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals are properly functioning so other drivers will see you during downpours. Turn on your headlights whenever you drive.
Proper tire tread depth and inflation are imperative to maintaining good traction on wet roadways. Check tread depth with a quarter inserted upside down into the tire groove. If you can see above Washington’s head, start shopping for new tires. Check each tire’s pressure, including the spare, at least once a month… and be sure to check the pressure when the tires are cold. AAA is in the business of rescuing millions of stranded motorists across the country each year. At the heart of this effort are service technicians and tow truck operators who put their lives at risk each time they respond to a member’s call for help.

Are you highly motivated? Are you ready to make over 50,000 a year? Could you use a 500.00 sign on bonus? We are currently looking for flatbed operators and service drivers. We find that a lot of people are unfamiliar with what the service driver position entails. Ill do my best to explain. You drive our service van and use our card for fuel. You log into our tablet at the beginning of your shift and run service calls in Butler County. service calls consist of lockouts, gas calls,tire changes/plugs and battery service/sales. No on call. We pay you 42% of truck gross.
All of our drivers average over 50,000.00 a year with the best ones getting close to 80,000.00. All we require is a fairly clean driving record and seven year background with no felonies. You must be 25 to drive our flatbeds and 23 for the service vans. We can train anyone to do either job. Equal opportunity employer.
