⚠️ PUBLIC WARNING — POSSIBLE INSURANCE & VEHICLE TOWING SCAM
We want to make the public and our fellow towing companies aware of an ongoing issue we’ve been encountering in our area.
Wayne’s Garage & Towing has received suspicious calls on a nearly weekly basis from individuals claiming to represent insurance companies and requesting that accident vehicles be released and transported to specific repair facilities.
We’ve encountered more than 10 of these suspicious transfer attempts.
The reported scheme involves callers posing as insurance representatives, convincing vehicle owners to authorize transfers for supposed inspections, and directing vehicles to facilities where owners may later face thousands of dollars in unexpected charges.
Vehicle owners: Never authorize a vehicle transfer without independently confirming the request with your insurance company. Always know where your vehicle is going.
Fellow towing companies: Please be aware of these calls. Verify who is requesting the release and whether the vehicle owner and insurance company have actually authorized the transfer.
If you believe you’ve been a victim, we encourage you to contact your insurance company and report the incident to the Ohio Department of Insurance’s Fraud & Enforcement Division.
We’re sharing this because we’ve seen these attempts firsthand, and we don’t want to see anyone taken advantage of during an already difficult situation.
