Car of the Week: 1955 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner
The 1950s gave us some of the most recognizable American cars ever built, but even among them, the Crown Victoria Skyliner was something special.
This 1955 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner is finished in Tropical Rose and Snowshoe White, a combination that fits its unmistakable mid-century styling beautifully. Above the passenger compartment is the feature that makes it a Skyliner: the distinctive tinted transparent roof panel. Ford produced just 1,999 Crown Victoria Skyliners for 1955, making these an uncommon sight today.
Under the hood is a 272 CID V8 paired with an automatic transmission, while the White and Magenta (Rose) vinyl interior carries the period styling right through the cabin. It's an older restoration that has been well cared for, retaining much of its original chrome and brightwork with the character you'd expect after more than 70 years.
It runs and drives well and offers exactly what makes a mid-'50s Ford so enjoyable—the color, chrome, V8 sound, and unmistakable presence of an era when cars weren't afraid to make a statement.
