There are moments in a career when the Venn diagram of culture, commerce, and pure childhood joy overlaps so perfectly it feels engineered by a benevolent game designer.

For me, one of those moments was 2016.

I had the privilege of leading the design and build of the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Civic—bringing together two powerhouse brands, and , and turning a production car into a rolling tribute to one of the most influential characters in entertainment history.

This week that memory carries more weight.

Hideki Sato, former President of SEGA and the industrial design mind behind nearly every SEGA console, has passed away.
A true architect of the modern video game era.

Long before “brand collaborations” were a marketing line item, people like Sato-san were shaping the emotional hardware of our lives—
the physical objects that delivered imagination into our homes.

The controllers.
The consoles.
The experience.

Working with SEGA on Sonic’s 25th anniversary wasn’t just another project.
It was a chance to help celebrate a legacy built by pioneers like him.

And it became a perfect example of what happens when:

🔹 iconic IP
🔹 the right OEM partner
🔹 and a bold experiential vision

come together with trust at the center.

I’m still grateful to have brought Honda in as the canvas, and to have helped translate Sonic’s energy into something you could see, hear, and watch pull up in real life.

Projects like that remind us:

We don’t just build campaigns.
We build physical expressions of people’s life work.

Rest in peace, Hideki Sato.

Being a Man of Your Word: The Power of a Handshake Deal

In a world filled with fine print and contracts, there’s something deeply honorable—and increasingly rare—about being a man of your word. When your integrity is strong enough that your handshake means more than any signature, you carry with you a legacy of trust that transcends generations.

The story of Thomas Cook and Joseph Feeney is a shining example. In 1992, two Wisconsin buddies made a simple promise: if either of us wins the lottery, we split it. No lawyers. No contracts. Just two friends and a firm handshake.

Decades passed. Life moved on. And then, nearly 30 years later, Cook hit a $22 million Powerball jackpot—and true to his word, he didn’t hesitate. He honored the deal.

No one would have faulted him if he’d forgotten. But that’s not who he is. That’s not what men of their word do.

RIP Sophie 9/19/2012-6/11/2025

Yesterday at 2:38pm, I received a call from Dr. Reilly’s office that during Sophie’s fluid draining procedure, her heart stopped, and there was nothing they could do.

In March of 2024, Sophie was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and put on heart medication and water pills 3x a day. As time went on, I had to get her belly drained of fluid building up on her belly (drained 88oz last time) and would schedule bi-monthly draining to keep her alive and kicking. 95% of the time, I had to be her caregiver, but thank God I had Nicole Stottlemyer to come to the house, let her out, and give her medication. Even Chad Boettcher helped me many times by letting her out when I was also away on business. I couldn’t have cared for her without you both, thank you!

Sky Fox and I are devastated at her loss because she was one of the sweetest creatures I have ever met. For the past twelve years, Sophie was a great wife to Bentley. Sophie was a great mother and lover to all. I’ll miss her whining when she wants treats or to be picked up and all the other personality traits that made her unique.



Love you forever, rest easy young lady, poor little Soph 😞
