If you have a golf cart with lead-acid batteries, don’t wait until your cart completely stops running to find out your batteries are struggling.

Here are some of the biggest warning signs to watch for:

🔋 1. Your cart is losing range.
If you’re charging fully but not getting nearly as much driving time as you used to, your batteries may be losing capacity.

🐢 2. Your cart feels sluggish.
Slow acceleration, especially when starting from a stop, can be a sign that the batteries aren’t delivering the power they once did.

⛰️ 3. Hills are suddenly a struggle.
If your cart used to handle the hills around your neighborhood with no problem but now slows dramatically, it’s worth having the batteries checked.

🔌 4. Charging takes noticeably longer.
A change in normal charging behavior can be another warning sign.

💧 5. You’re having to add water unusually often.
Lead-acid batteries require regular watering. Cart manufacturers recommend checking electrolyte levels regularly, and Trojan recommends watering after a full charge. Frequent or excessive water loss can indicate a maintenance or battery issue that deserves attention.

And here’s the important part: one symptom doesn’t automatically mean you need a new set of batteries. Battery age, maintenance history, connections, charging habits and individual battery performance all matter.
