We often get asked why a diagnostic is needed when the auto parts store “pull” codes for free.
The truth is, there is way more to a diagnostic than reading a code. A code reader costs less than $100 and tells you the code and an “idea” of what the issue may be.
A diagnostic involves a professional technician who utilizes thousands of dollars worth of scan tools that read live data. But—a good technician does not rely solely on “scans.” We also inspect the vehicle and perform our OWN tests and follow manufacturer procedures regarding the issue. Professionals have software, repair guides, labor guides and much more that are utilized. In addition to all of this—professional knowledge is utilized.
Although it may seem like the same thing—it is far from it. When you pay for a diagnostic, you are paying for the knowledge, expertise, and time it takes to figure out your problem. Paying for a diagnostic also eliminates the “what ifs” and prevents you from replacing parts that may not be needed.
