The Aug. 19 edition featured the annual Community Heroes section, where we celebrate the many people who make our local communities great. What was extra special was the two-page spread on The Outlook’s Christopher Keizur. Thanks to Bess Wills of Gresham Ford, she was able to gather more than 20 other businesses to purchase space in the section as a way to say thank you to Christopher for all the hard work he does for The Outlook and the community of Gresham — not to mention Sandy, Estacada, Troutdale, Wood Village and Fairview.

Historical but Really About the Future..

This week, I’m especially thankful for the incredible support surrounding the Gresham Historical Society’s “Picnic for the Past,” celebrating 50 years of preserving our community’s history.

The fundraiser raised much-needed funds that will allow the Museum in Historic Downtown Gresham to continue its important work. But just as meaningful, it raised new friends—people who heard the story, connected with the mission, and are now willing to help protect the stories and legacies in our community’s rearview mirror.

One new friend even made a donation through her current-year IRA distribution—a smart way to support the causes you care about. If you’re unfamiliar with the potential tax advantages of charitable giving from an IRA, it’s worth a conversation with your accountant or CPA.

I’m grateful to everyone who made the evening special. Past President Sue Piazza researched and provided the most delicious locally baked pies (Mt. Hood Pie Company-please give them a try). Sandra Rich made sure we had regionally grown watermelon. President Karen Johnston donated charcuterie that featured many local tastes as well as Oregon boards for display. Our wonderful restaurant neighbors in Downtown Gresham donated gift cards for the ticket raffle, and the Portland Winterhawks generously contributed as well. Supporting local businesses is so important especially when raising funds for local charities.

Most importantly, thank you to our Board of Directors, their spouses, families, and friends. They gave their time, treasure, and plenty of sweat so that 100% of the proceeds could benefit the Museum.

As one of the event chairs, my heart is full of gratitude.

And finally, a special thank-you to our team at Gresham Ford. Bob and I may sometimes receive the credit for our community giving, but so much happens behind the scenes. Amy and Ian, rarely does anything happen without your help.

THANK YOU to everyone who showed up, pitched in, gave generously, and helped us preserve Gresham’s stories and the buildings in which they reside for generations to come!
