From this month's school at the Consumer Reports Testing Facility in Colchester, CT that helps host the Connecticut Valley Chapter BMW CCA annual schools. They have a great Semi-Truck demo every time. Check out that shifter! They will host another school in September🏅
Greetings Heroes!
Hey everybody! It's Friday! I hope you had a great Holiday weekend. With this past weekend, we begin what's known as the 100 Deadliest Days. The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the 100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers—a period when crashes involving teen drivers spike. When a teen hits the road with this often newfound freedom, many underestimate the dangers of distraction, speeding, and risky driving behaviors.
AAA’s review of crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows a 30% increase in deadly crashes involving teen drivers during summer compared to the rest of the year. On average, eight people lose their lives every day in a teen-related crash between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
"During the summer, teen drivers are on the road more often, usually with friends, which increases the risk of distraction and dangerous driving habits,” said Rachel Wilson, Director of Driver Education for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Many feel invincible behind the wheel, underestimating the dangers of speeding, distractions, and not wearing a seatbelt. But crashes hit different when they happen to you —and by then, it’s too late."
Key Risk Factors for Teen Drivers
New teen drivers (ages 16-17) are nearly three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash compared to adults. The biggest contributing factors include:
Distraction: Nearly six out of ten teen crashes involve some form of distraction. Teen passengers are the leading distraction, followed by cell phones and infotainment systems.
Speeding: Almost 30% of fatal teen crashes involve excessive speed.
Driving with teen passengers: Studies show that the risk of a fatal crash increases with each additional teen passenger (NHTSA).
Failure to wear a seatbelt: Seatbelt use significantly reduces the likelihood of serious injury or death.
"Teens are inexperienced behind the wheel, and that lack of experience combined with risky behaviors is a dangerous mix,” said Molly Hart, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “More teens die in car crashes during summer than any other season. Parents must take an active role in coaching their teens and reinforcing safe driving habits.”
“Crashes Hit Different’ This Summer
The key risk factors for teen drivers also happen to be the four leading contributors to traffic injuries and fatalities for all drivers. On average, someone is killed in a car crash every 12 minutes on our nation’s roads, primarily due to these four factors.
Let's take this to heart and do everything we can to help decrease these 100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers!
We had a quite short week at the International Tire Rack Street Survival HQ. No new schools opened or committed.

🚗 This Weekend’s Action - 4 schools!
5/30 - Chicago Region PCA #1 - Joliet, IL. 1 seat away from a SOLD OUT! school. Dana Comolli has the troops lined up and ready to go. This is their 3rd school at the Autobahn Country Club. Great job to all!! 80 degrees and partly cloudy is predicted, NICE!
5/30 - Kentucky Region SCCA #1 - Bowling Green, KY. I'm lucky to be involved in this school at my 'home' track in Bowling Green at the National Corvette Motorsport Park. I'll be leading the classroom duties and helping out where I can. The school is on their 14 acre paddock. A HPDE for motorcycles will be going on the track at the same time. The SCCA region will run a big Solo event (Autocross) on Sunday. 13 students will gain life saving skills thanks to Dave Melton and crew! I'm looking forward to getting back in the classroom for the 1st time this year. This is the Region's 8th school. 84 degrees as a high and 50% chance of rain in the morning. Sounds OK to me!
5/30 - South Bend Region SCCA #1 - South Bend, IN. The Region is hosting their 26th school at the Mother Ship (Tire Racks Headquarters and Test Track) starting back in 2008. They also ran 19 schools under the Tire Rack's hosting banner until that stopped in 2019. They've got a solid school of 13 students. They are also hosting a 2nd school this year for the 1st time since 2018 and that second school will qualify for the '+1=2x$' campaign. Kim Bolinger is leading the charge! 77 degrees and partly cloudy is predicted, sounds pretty perfect!
5/31 - Potomac Region PCA #1 - Summit Point WV. Doug Hough has a team ready for the 20 students coming to the Summit Point Raceway for their 1st to 2 schools this year. There will be 4 schools at Summit Point this year between this host and the National Capital Chapter BMW CCA. The 1st was 2 weeks ago. September and October will finish out the year there. 70 degrees and partly cloudy is predicted, now that is perfect!
🔺 Let's remember why we are doing this folks:
56 teens have died this week since the last time you read this update!
Many have said that Street Survival is the most rewarding thing you can do in a car club. Everyone knows a teenager—a family member, neighbor, co-worker—who needs this program. You’ll be sharing the road with them. Let's make them safer to make you safer!
💬 And Now This .........
from a recent survey from Students -
I like that the classroom instructor kept us attentive throughout class, it made me comfortable to ask questions. - Olivia S.
Overall super fun I left with the smile on my face and with more knowledge - Kate S.
that's why we do it folks!!!
Let's see some smiling faces! SEND US PICTURES PLEASE!! Candid shots of your students interacting with each other, their parents, checking tire pressures, sitting in class.....
