Miata’s at the gap was incredibly huge30th anniversary. We had fun with foothills Miata club and drove the Tail of the Dragon. Saw three wrecks and the police were pulling people left and right for going too fast. Sheryl and I had a picnic lunch up at the top of the field above the vendors. Stopped to see the Fontana Dam and drove the dragon three more times. Got great video footage of the drive and hope to have that posted soon.

So…after close inspection of the rotating assembly,cyl 1 took a small hit. Cyl 1 rod journal has some scoring that can be felt with the finger nail. Journals 2 & 4 are clean for the mileage that is on the engine. Journal 3 has some wear, but can’t be felt with the fingernail. The plan is to take it to JAB Engines and let Alan and Jeff look at it and see if any thing can be done for it. Other than that, you can still see the hashmarks on the cylinder walls from the factory honing not bad for 130 K plus miles.

We have an update on the Mazda Miata NC1 engine. I think we may have found the VVT rattle. Found the plunger in the bottom of the oil pan. Have not found the missing piece out of the VVT Housing. This new bit of information causes us to pause and inspect the rotating assembly much more closely. So far the damage just seems to be isolated to the VVT sprocket and housing. Update to follow as they present themselves.

A Mazda Miata 2.0l NC1 engine was given to us by a very good friend of the shop in exchange for some track prep services. Has a vet rattle on start up so he did not want to have it on the track. Did someone say Possible engine build? Follow for more as we decide what we want to do to it.

One of the cleanest NB Miatas I have seen in a long with 56K miles on the odometer. Came in for oil leak inspection and a broken license plate lens. We clean the engine off really well and let it run for about 5 minutes and any active leaks were not immediately present. Parts are ordered and when she comes back for the lens replacement, will check to see where the oil leaks are coming from.💯🔥
