Not at fault. No aftermarket parts before the accident. A clean, well-kept vehicle.

State Farm’s answer? Refuse to pay for a proper repair and have a third-party adjusting company deliver the bad news.

Fortunately, this customer knows their rights and isn’t backing down.

This is why independent shops matter. We don’t ask, “What will the insurance company pay?” We ask, “What does the vehicle need?”

There’s a difference.

This customer already purchased this vehicle and brought it to us for what seemed like minor “loose ends” — a few issues they noticed after the sale.

But once we got it in the shop… the real story started showing itself.

What appeared to be small concerns uncovered much bigger problems:

🔴 Loose core/radiator support hardware
🔴 Multiple bends in the passenger frame rail
🔴 Missing paint and cracked coatings on structural areas
🔴 Failed previous headlamp repair
🔴 Driver’s frame rail tears from prior repair work

The scary part?
The customer had no idea the vehicle had severe structural damage.

And honestly… most people wouldn’t.

When buying a used vehicle, especially one with prior accident history (or sometimes even a “clean” history), cosmetic appearance can hide serious underlying issues.

This is why where a vehicle was repaired matters.

“Dealer sold” does not automatically mean structurally sound.

“Body shop repaired” does not automatically mean properly repaired.

And a shiny exterior doesn’t mean safe.

Unfortunately, many buyers don’t know what to look for until it’s too late.

Our goal isn’t fear — it’s education.

At The Damage Company, we want consumers to understand that a professional inspection before OR after purchase can uncover hidden damage, poor repairs, and potential safety concerns.

If something feels off, have it checked.
A second set of trained eyes can make all the difference.

Because your family’s safety should never depend on what someone hoped you wouldn’t notice.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DRP SHOPS vs. INDEPENDENT SHOPS

Let’s call it what it is.

Times are tough. People are shopping harder than ever for the cheapest insurance premiums they can find.

But here’s what many consumers don’t realize until they actually need their policy:

Cheap premiums can come with costly limitations.

Many insurance policies are written so the company is only obligated to pay for what they deem necessary, reasonable, or approve — which does not always mean what your vehicle’s manufacturer requires for a proper OEM-correct repair.

And right now, the bigger insurance model is pushing hard in one direction:

Make independent shops feel inconvenient.

Longer approvals.
More pushback.
Selective payment.
Steering language.
“Recommended” shops.
DRP pressure.

Why?

Because if they can make using your local independent shop frustrating enough…
You may eventually feel like you have no choice but to use their “approved” shop.

That’s not about your freedom.
That’s about control.

The goal is simple: funnel customers into repair channels built around insurer cost management.

Meanwhile, independent shops — the shops rooted in your community — are often:

Supporting local families
Buying from local vendors
Sponsoring schools, sports, and events
Creating local jobs
Working directly for YOU, not insurer contracts
Prioritizing proper repair over corporate scorecards

Independent shops don’t answer to national chain agreements or insurance performance metrics.

They answer to the customer standing in front of them.

And yes — sometimes that means difficult conversations when insurance won’t fully cover what OEM procedures require.

That does not mean the shop is greedy.
It often means insurance is underpaying while the shop is trying to repair your vehicle correctly.

Here’s the real question:

Do you want your vehicle repaired based on what protects insurer profits…

Or by a shop that protects your investment, your safety, and your right to choose?

We have to stand strong as consumers.

Because once local independent shops disappear, your choices shrink… and corporate control grows.

Demand your right to choose:

Choose community over corporation.
Choose local over national steering.
Choose transparency over convenience pressure.
Choose a shop that works for YOU — not big insurance.

Your vehicle is one of the largest investments you’ll ever make.
Your family rides in it.
Your dollars shape your community.

Support the independent shops fighting for proper repairs, local business, and customer choice — before “choice” becomes nothing more than an illusion.

Make sure you Like and Share to support your local Collision Repair Shop and spread the word.

HELP WANTED — HELP US BUILD THE NEXT CHAPTER

The Damage Company Auto Refinish | Entering Year 8

I’ll be real with you…

The last couple years of business haven’t been without their growing pains.

As The Damage Company heads into our 8th year, one thing has become crystal clear:

We need the right person (or people) to help us grow better — not just bigger.

Like many small businesses, one of our biggest shortcomings lately has been customer communication and keeping all the moving pieces flowing the way they should. When you wear too many hats, sometimes things slip — and that’s not the standard we want to be known for.

We’ve built this business on hard work, quality repairs, honesty, and doing right by people… but now it’s time to strengthen the foundation.

WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING TO HIRE:
Either:
Office Manager / Estimator

OR

Automotive Painter

Whichever strong fit comes first helps free up the next piece of the puzzle.

THIS IS PERSONAL.

The Damage Company isn’t some corporate machine.

This shop was built from the ground up through grit, long hours, lessons learned, and a genuine desire to serve our community the right way.

We know where we’ve done well.
We also know where we need to improve.

And that starts with bringing in dependable people who care.

OFFICE MANAGER / ESTIMATOR:

We need someone who can help us improve:

Customer communication
Scheduling
Insurance coordination
Estimates & supplements
Organization
Front office flow

If you’re organized, personable, hungry to learn, and take pride in helping people through stressful situations — this could be huge.

PAINTER:

If your skillset is in the booth, prep, and production — we need that too.

A quality painter helps free the owner up to focus on operations, customers, and growth.

WHAT WE VALUE:
Reliability
Accountability
Communication
Craftsmanship
Positive attitude
Desire to grow
WHAT WE DON’T NEED:
Constant excuses
Drama
Corner cutting
People who just want to punch a clock
WHY THIS MATTERS:

Year 8 isn’t about survival anymore.

It’s about refining, improving, and building a business our family, team, and community can truly be proud of.

If you want to be part of something honest, growing, and real — now’s the time.

Cars have changed a lot in 30 years.

Some repair methods haven’t.

And sometimes, the shops recommended to you aren’t recommended because they’re the most thorough…

They’re recommended because they fit a system.

We’d rather fit the vehicle.
