In our last post, we mentioned the difficulty of getting parts for some vehicles once they hit 15-20 years old. This 05 Acura RSX is a perfect example of that. Came in Tuesday for lower ball joints, a job that takes about 2 hours or so, typically.
The first set we received (ordered ahead of time) took a day to get in from the store hub. They ended up being a style we don't like installing on this particular design of Honda suspension (they have the possibility for the press fit to slip if the bore in the knuckle is worn out, allowing the joint to slide out of the knuckle and rub the CV shaft).
We went to order the improved design, and none of the stores we have accounts with could get them in until this weekend, so we ended up ordering them off the Jungle Website, as a last resort (known brand name, next day shipping). Received them late yesterday, went to install them first thing today, they were for a different vehicle. 🙄
Then ordered a different set, expected in around Lunch time. They ended up not getting put on the truck from the hub, not expected until 3:30 today.
Since the customer needs the car back, called a store we don't have an account with (because they're way across town, and usually can't deliver fast enough with traffic). Their website showed the design we don't like, but we didn't have much choice at that point. Thankfully, they ended up being the design we like (yet another topic - parts pictured aren't always what you receive), and the car is now back together and just pulled out of the bay.
Just some insight as to why a shop might have your car longer than they should. We don't like it, because it can cause logistical issues having a lift tied up for days. And we appreciate that a customers patience only goes so far. But this is the life of living with an older vehicle sometimes.
