Tech Tip Tuesday!!

Fire Jackets, Gloves, Neck Collars, Head Socks, Door Bar Pins, are all great for protecting you and keeping you safe, IF YOU USE THEM. They do nothing if they are in your trunk, on the back seat, or left in the trailer. Rolling your fire jacket sleeves up is also a no no. Being able to pull your window net back is too. Modifying a neck collar is also against the rules. It can't be cut and must be in good condition. Cutting holes in your gloves or only wearing one so you can press whatever buttons you need to is also a no go.

We can't leave Junior Dragsters out of this week's Tech Tip... tow flags. Please use them!! They don't do any good being left in the trailer. They must be attached to each Jr. Dragster anytime the vehicle is being towed by a strap or a front-end dolly. Minimum height of the flag is five feet. We lent two out this past weekend, we only got one back. We miss our Jr flag.

If you want a good laugh, come be a tech inspector and see what people try to pass as safe. We are always looking for tech inspectors.

We don't make the rules but NHRA expects us to enforce them. So does the state of NJ. Little know fact NJ's Drag racing laws were adopted straight from the NHRA Rulebook. So not only are the NHRA's racing rules they are NJ STATE LAW. Do you want NJ's only Drag Strip getting in trouble for breaking the law? Just because we didn't catch or see something one week does not mean we won't see it the next week.

Mother Nature was finally kind to us! What a great weekend at the track! Great showing last night for our first Saturday night Grudge and test & tune and today in Northeast Drag Bike Summit ET race, Jr Dragster, Jr Street AND MANDRA!

Saturday night… the lights come on, the lanes fill up, and the talking stops. Got a race lined up? Got something to prove? Been calling somebody out online for weeks? GOOD! Now it’s time to pull into the beams and let the cars do the talking. Leave the drama at home. Leave the excuses in the parking lot. It's all about reaction times, horsepower, and who takes the win light under the lights.

This Sunday is Open Test and Tune for all vehicles, along with Summit Racing Junior Dragster and Jr Street Race #4. Both of the Junior classes have grown and the competition is fierce.

If you don't know about the Jr racing program this Sunday is the day to come and check it out. Walk the pits, talk to the parents, have the kids check out the junior dragster cars or you can even check out the kids racing regular big cars.

The Motorcycle and Sled race is special this Sunday. It's the King of the Track qualifier race for them. What does that mean? It means the winner of this Sunday's race gets to come back on Saturday June 20th to race the cars to see who is the KING of the Track.

Gate open 10am, Racing Starts 11am.

No streets. No excuses. Just racers, reactions, and scoreboards lit up under the lights. As always, every vehicle racing must pass NHRA Tech Inspection, there will be NO TIMESLIPS for grudge races. The win light will light up for the winner.

Tech Tip Tuesday: Learn the Tree Before Saturday Night!

Saturday Night Grudge & TnT 3.0 is THIS Saturday, May 30th at Island Dragway! We’re finally ready for a night under the lights. That makes this the perfect time to go over how the “Christmas Tree” works and properly stage your vehicle.

Understanding the Christmas Tree:

🔵 Pre-Stage Lights
Your front tires are getting close to the starting line beams.

🔵 Stage Lights
Your front tires are fully in the beams, you’re locked in and ready to race.

🟡 Amber Lights Countdown Begins
Sportsman Tree: Ambers flash one at a time
Pro Tree: All 3 ambers flash at once

🟢 Green Light
GO GO GO!

🔴 Red Light
You left too early. Better luck next run.

First time at the track? Don’t stress. Our starting line crew is always there to help guide you into the beams correctly. Pay attention, learn the process, and before long you’ll be staging like a pro.

Basic Requirements to Make a Pass:
• Snell 2015 or newer helmet required
(DOT helmets OK only for vehicles 14.00 ET and slower)
• No shorts or sleeveless shirts
(Long pants required)
• Closed-toe shoes required
• Fire jacket required for 11.50 or quicker

Once the overhead lights come on, your headlights and taillights should too. Every vehicle must have at least one working rear light so we can safely see you at the top end of the track. Remember: 5mph speed limit in the pit and staging lanes area, 15 mph speed limit on the return road and on the track, well that's the point of racing, to see how fast you can go on NJ's only Drag Strip.
