TrafficTalk

TrafficTalk TrafficTalk provides location-based audio alerts to help you get where you're going faster, without distracted driving.
TrafficTalk's first generation traffic information service provided an application that enabled drivers using mobile phones to come together in an audio conference environment and safely share details about traffic conditions, helping one another avoid or escape back-ups.

Coming soon. The new TrafficTalk hands-free app which will provide drivers with actionable information to help them avoid traffic back-ups.

Mission: As a voice-based service, TrafficTalk allows eyes to remain on the road and hands on the wheel. The combined safety and robust traffic details of TrafficTalk’s information-sharing method make it a natural add-on to other navigation, mapping and traffic-focused services.

Study: Who Is Riding Curbside Buses, And Should Amtrak Worry? | Transportation Nation

You're probably seeing more of the low-cost, "curbside buses" such as Bolt Bus and Megabus on the highways. They are attracting young riders, often at the expense of Intercity trains (Amtrak). Interesting piece on their growing popularity.

After 40 years of retrenchment, the bus industry is making a big comeback. Discount curbside buses are currently the fastest growing mode of intercity transportation in the U.S. A new survey finds that bus passengers are overwhelmingly young, and they are being diverted from rail -- even more than t...

UPS’s Safest Driver Reaches Milestone Logging Over 4 Million Miles

Here's an example of safe truck driving which is deserving of recognition. The secret to this safety record? "...you have to be a defensive driver. You have to be able to compensate for other people's mistakes and expect the unexpected. You can't drive too close..." All good advice.

He may be the safest driver on the road. UPS driver, Ronald Sowder, has driven his big brown truck the equivalent of six round trips to the moon without a single auto accident.

Some good news. Why the drop? Experts credit newer vehicles with more safety features including air bags and antilock brakes, highways built with more attention to safety, and increased seat belt use/strict car-seat laws.

Getting traffic information is now a give-and-take

Nice feature from today's Worcester (MA) Telegram which includes an interview with our a.m. TrafficTalk host, Geoff Cook. From the piece: "He [Geoff] recalled a recent morning when one driver called after getting stuck in northbound traffic on a major highway. Another driver who was going southbound saw what was causing the delay and called in to report it." Indeed, that's how it works!

Ever find yourself shouting at the car radio when you hear a traffic report that you know is wrong?
