STOP. Before you ride that golf cart on Brookhaven streets, you need to read this.

Think your golf cart is street-legal? Think again.

Over the past 8 years, Brookhaven Police investigated 9 crashes involving golf carts and personal vehicles. In 4 of those crashes, the operator was at fault. Golf carts don't have airbags, reinforced frames, or the safety features that real cars have. That's why state law prohibits them on public streets—period.

But here's what IS legal: Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) that are properly registered, insured, and equipped with safety features can legally drive on Brookhaven roads with 35 MPH speed limits.

🚨Attention Sandy Springs Residents!🚨

Golf carts are illegal to drive on public roadway in Sandy Springs where the speed limit is greater than 25 mph.

To operate a golf cart on the public roadway where the speed limit is 25 mph or less, the operator must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license. Headlights, taillights, reflectors, and other lighting requirements for golf carts are the same as other motor vehicles. Registration, proof of insurance, and seatbelts are not required. Also, an impaired operator of a golf cart may be arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, and other applicable violations.
