Tech Talk Flashback

Yesterday, we talked about how foggy mornings and changing weather can make visibility more difficult. Today, we're taking a look at something your vehicle can control: proper headlamp aiming.

Headlights aren't simply installed and forgotten. After certain collision repairs, proper headlamp aiming is an important part of putting the vehicle back together correctly.

Too high? You could create unnecessary glare for other drivers.

Too low? You may not be getting the visibility you need down the road.

That's why our technicians check and aim headlights as part of the repair process when required by the vehicle and repair procedures.

💡 It's another detail that may not be obvious when you pick up your vehicle—but it matters when you hit the road.

Watch today's Tech Talk Tuesday to see what our techs are doing to get your vehicle back on the road.

🌫️ Fog can turn a familiar road into a completely different drive.

As temperatures start to change, foggy mornings can become more common—and reduced visibility means it's time to adjust the way you drive.

When you encounter fog:

✅ Slow down. Give yourself more time to react to what you can't see ahead.

✅ Increase your following distance. Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you.

✅ Use your low beams. High beams can reflect off the fog and actually make visibility worse.

✅ Watch for vehicles that may be difficult to see. Give yourself extra time and space when approaching other vehicles, especially at intersections and turns.

🌫️ When visibility drops, your speed should drop, too.

A few extra minutes on your morning commute is worth it when it means getting where you're going safely.

Drive smart. Slow down. Give yourself room.

🌧️ A wet road doesn't just mean a slower drive—it means less traction and less control.

When rain moves in, your vehicle may need more time and distance to stop, and standing water can create a serious risk of hydroplaning.

A few things to keep in mind when the roads are wet:

✅ Slow down. Reduced traction means you may not be able to stop as quickly.

✅ Give yourself more following distance. Leave extra room between you and the vehicle ahead.

✅ Watch for standing water. Puddles can hide potholes, debris, or other road hazards—and hitting them at speed can cause you to lose control.

✅ Check your tires. Proper tread and inflation are important for maintaining traction on wet roads.
✅ Make sure your wipers are working properly. You need a clear view of the road, especially during heavy rain.

✅ Don't forget your headlights. Rain can dramatically reduce visibility, both for you and for other drivers trying to see you.

Before the next storm, take a minute to check your tires, wipers, headlights, and brakes.

A little preparation can make a big difference when the weather changes.

Drive smart. Slow down. Give yourself room.

🚗 Know Before You Go | Question #5

“Do you have the proper equipment and ability to measure the unibody or frame of the vehicle?”

After a collision, damage isn’t always something you can see.

Even when a vehicle looks relatively straight from the outside, the unibody or frame can be shifted, bent, or damaged underneath the visible damage. That’s why proper measuring is such an important part of the repair process.

A quality collision repair shop should have the proper measuring equipment, trained technicians, and access to the manufacturer’s specifications to determine whether the vehicle’s structure is within those specifications.

Measuring can help identify damage that may otherwise go unnoticed and provides important information for developing the correct repair plan.

👉 Don’t just ask if your vehicle “looks straight.” Ask if it was actually measured.

Your vehicle’s structure is the foundation of everything else. If it isn’t properly inspected and repaired, the rest of the repair can be compromised.

Before you choose a shop, ask the question.

Was my vehicle measured? Is it within the manufacturer’s specifications? And does your shop have the equipment and training to prove it?

You shouldn’t have to take someone’s word for it when it comes to the structural integrity of your vehicle.

Ask questions. Get informed. Know before you go. 🔧
