An exciting update on where things stand with Wrench Club:
We originally planned to open August 1, then moved that to September 1. We're now going to miss September 1 too. The holdup is the city planning approval process, which is still working its way through. It's out of our hands for the moment, and we'd rather give you a straight answer than a date we can't hit.
As soon as we have a real opening date, you'll be the first to know. The delay has slowed the opening, but not the work. We've kept doing what's within reach to make Wrench Club what we set out to build.
Here's the rundown.
Showroom. We're furnishing the front of the space with a dealership-lounge feel: a few cars on display and a few spots to sit down and hang out. There's a 100" TV on the wall and lounge seating set up for every Sunday race and the occasional Fast and Furious binge. We've got a vending machine in, with more ideas for light refreshments coming in the next few months. We're also kicking off our first year as an ArtPrize venue, with a portion of the showroom blocked off for public access.
Simulators. The racing sim setups will be up and running for members when we open. We filmed a timelapse of the build that we'll be posting to socials shortly.
Shop floor. We've finalized the layout for the working side of the shop, including bays and hoists. Four two-post hoists are upright and awaiting city approval, plus one flat bay and five fully stocked toolboxes. We put together a list of what lives in each bay, along with the Shared Tools available to everyone during bay time. We'd love your feedback on it. Note this may not be the final list of what's on hand when you book a bay, and if you have your own tools, feel free to bring them to your bay.
We went with a pneumatic setup over battery tools to keep things simple. We wanted to give a rundown of what you can expect to have access to with your membership when you want to work on your own vehicle.
Each bay comes with a pneumatic hose reel, pneumatic wrenches and impacts, blower nozzles, and tire gauges/inflators. Each bay toolbox includes:
1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 shallow and deep well sockets, swivel sockets and extensions, ratcheting box wrenches, pneumatic impact wrench, impact hammers/chisels, ratcheting screwdriver with bit set, pliers set, pry bar set, snap ring pliers, picks and hooks, straight cut snips, dead blow hammers, punches, work lights, and funnels.
Shared Tools. This room sits between the shop and the showroom and holds the larger, more specific tools for members to check out. Some of what will live here:
Topdon scan tool, 20-ton press, bench vise, induction heater kit, fluid extractor,1/4, 3/8, 1/2 torque wrenches, stationary grinding/buffing/sanding wheel, ultrasonic parts cleaner, master ball joint press kit,
radiator pressure tester kit, brake bleeder kit, universal spark plug socket set, electrical connectors, wire st*****rs, multimeters, jumper/leader wires, multi-use saw, pneumatic grinder, oscillating multi-tool.
The Library. This rounds out the diagnostic and work area. It'll have individual computer workstations with access to AllData diagnostics and step-by-step guides for all makes and models, plus a printer for parts diagrams and AllData notes. We'll share photos as these come together.
Thanks for sticking with us through the wait. It'll be worth it. If you have feedback, or tools you'd like to see added to the Shared Tools room or the Library, comment here or send over an email to let us know.
