Oil leaks don’t fix themselves—they only get worse with time. During this repair, we found engine oil leaking from the valve cover gasket, allowing oil to seep down the engine and create a mess.

A leaking valve cover gasket can lead to:
✅ Oil spots in your driveway
✅ Burning oil smells
✅ Smoke from under the hood
✅ Low engine oil levels
✅ Damage to ignition components and wiring

We replaced the valve cover gasket and seals to stop the leak and keep the engine clean and protected.

If you’ve noticed oil leaks, burning oil odors, or fluid spots where you park, it’s a good idea to have your vehicle inspected before a small leak turns into a bigger repair.

Your vehicle’s oxygen sensors play a critical role in monitoring exhaust gases and helping the engine maintain the proper air-fuel mixture. When an oxygen sensor begins to fail, it can cause poor fuel economy, reduced performance, rough running conditions, and trigger a check engine light.

In this repair, we replaced a faulty oxygen sensor to restore proper engine operation and help ensure the emissions system is functioning as designed.

Common signs of a failing oxygen sensor include:
✅ Check engine light illuminated
✅ Poor fuel mileage
✅ Rough idle or hesitation
✅ Failed emissions testing
✅ Increased exhaust emissions

Don’t ignore that check engine light. A simple sensor replacement today can help prevent more expensive repairs down the road.

If your engine stumbles under acceleration, idles rough at red lights, or suddenly triggers a flashing "Check Engine" light, you are likely dealing with a cylinder misfire. We just finished upgrading the ignition system on this vehicle to restore smooth, reliable power.
What you’re seeing in this photo:
This image shows a row of brand-new, premium ignition coils and boots neatly bolted down into the cylinder head. These components sit directly on top of the spark plugs, delivering the high-voltage zap required to ignite the fuel inside your engine efficiently.
Why replacing worn coils and boots matters:
Eliminate Misfires: Over thousands of heat cycles, internal electrical windings inside a coil degrade, leading to a weak or inconsistent spark. Fresh units ensure clean combustion.
Stop Voltage Leaks: The rubber boots extending down to the spark plugs can dry out, crack, or become contaminated with oil. When they fail, the electrical spark will literally punch through the rubber and short out against the engine block instead of firing the plug.
Protect Your Catalytic Converter: Driving with a misfire allows unburned fuel to dump straight into your exhaust system, which can overheat and melt your expensive catalytic converter in short order.
The Hank’s Precision Touch:
Chasing down ignition issues takes the right diagnostic equipment. We don't just guess and throw parts at a problem—we use advanced scan tools to monitor live misfire data, isolate the exact failing cylinders, and inspect the spark plugs while we're in there. When we install new coils, we apply specialized dielectric grease to the boots to lock out moisture and prevent future voltage arc-over.
Don't let a rough idle ruin your daily drive. If your engine is losing its spark, bring it by Hank’s and let our team get it running smooth again!

Remember that heavy-duty engine replacement project we had hanging from the hoist? We’ve officially hit the milestone every mechanic loves to see: the brand-new engine is securely bolted down, fully dressed, and nestled perfectly into the engine bay.
What you’re seeing in this photo:
This is what a fresh start looks like under the hood. The clean, brand-new engine block is in place, and we’ve carefully reassembled the top-end components. From the pristine timing cover and fresh water pump to the completely routed accessory belt drive and the throttle body sitting up top, every piece of this complex puzzle has been meticulously installed.
Why a complete swap is worth the investment:
Zero-Hour Reliability: This vehicle now has a completely fresh heart with internal components that haven't faced years of friction, heat, or heavy towing stress.
Comprehensive Component Refresh: While putting this engine in, we don't just transfer old, tired parts. We install fresh gaskets, new belts, a brand-new water pump, and fresh hoses to make sure the supporting components are just as reliable as the new engine itself.
The Ultimate Second Lease on Life: Instead of taking on years of new commercial vehicle payments, this customer completely reset the clock on their trusted work truck for a fraction of the cost.
The Final Steps:
Now that the heavy mechanical assembly is wrapped up, our crew is moving on to the precision work: refilling the system with fresh fluids, flushing the cooling system, checking the electrical harnesses, and running a complete computer initialization sequence to ensure the vehicle's brain communicates perfectly with its new muscles.
If your trusted truck or daily driver is down for the count with major engine trouble, don't throw in the towel just yet. Bring it to Hank’s and let’s discuss giving it a fresh start!

Beat the Summer Heat: Brand-New AC Compressor Installation
With the West Michigan summer temperatures right around the corner, a fully functioning air conditioning system isn't just about comfort—it's a necessity. We just finished installing this fresh AC compressor to make sure this vehicle blows ice-cold air all season long.
What you’re seeing in this photo:
This is a brand-new AC compressor bolted into place and perfectly paired with a fresh serpentine belt. The compressor is the heart of your car’s air conditioning system, pumping and pressurizing refrigerant to cool down the cabin.
Common signs your AC compressor is failing:
1 Warm Air: If your vents are blowing lukewarm or ambient air even when the temperature dial is set to max cold, the compressor may not be engaging.
2 Loud Noises: A failing internal bearing or clutch assembly will often make a loud squealing, rattling, or grinding noise under the hood whenever you turn the AC on.
3 Seized Clutch: If the compressor clutch seizes completely, it can cause the serpentine belt to snap, leaving you stranded without power steering or an alternator charging system.
The Hank’s Standard:
When an AC compressor fails internally, it often sends tiny metal debris through the entire system. At Hank’s, we don't just swap the compressor and send it. We perform a complete system flush, replace the receiver-drier/desiccant bag to capture any remaining moisture, and pull a deep vacuum on the system before recharging it with precise factory levels of refrigerant and specialized oil. This ensures your new compressor operates smoothly and stands the test of time.
Don't wait until the first major heatwave to find out your AC isn't working! Bring your vehicle by the shop for an AC system checkup so you can cruise in comfort.

Clean, Coated, and Ready to Control: Fresh Front Brakes
There’s nothing quite like the sight of brand-new stopping power. We just finished up a heavy-duty front brake service in the shop, and this setup is built to handle whatever the road throws at it.
What you’re seeing in this photo:
We’ve installed a premium, coated brake rotor paired with heavy-duty brake pads on this truck.
The Power of the Coating: Notice that clean, silver-grey finish on the rotor? That isn't just for looks. It’s a specialized protective coating engineered to fight off the moisture, humidity, and road debris that love to eat away at bare metal. It keeps the non-friction surfaces rust-free so your brakes look clean and perform flawlessly.
Maximum Contact: Look at how perfectly those fresh, thick brake pads seat against the flat, machined surface of the new rotor. This ensures 100% pad-to-rotor contact the exact moment you step on the pedal, giving you crisp, predictable stopping power without any noise, squealing, or steering wheel pulsation.
The Hank’s Standard:
We don't just slip new pads into old, rusty hardware. Every brake job at Hank’s includes a thorough cleaning of the caliper brackets, fresh premium hardware, proper lubrication of the slider pins, and a full inspection of the hydraulic lines. We do the job right the first time because your safety on the road is our absolute priority.
If your vehicle's brakes are feeling soft, squealing loudly, or vibrating when you slow down, don't take a chance on them. Bring your ride to the shop and let us give you the premium stopping power you deserve!

Spotted in the Shop: The Silent Leak (Why Pink Crust Means Trouble)
What you’re seeing in this photo:
This radiator just came out of a customer's vehicle. See that chalky, pinkish-white crust creeping along the edge where the plastic tank meets the aluminum core? That is dried, crystallized engine coolant.
Why does it look like that?
Modern long-life coolants are designed to crust over when they hit the open air. It's actually a built-in safety feature! Because small cooling system leaks often happen slowly when the engine is hot, the fluid evaporates immediately. Instead of a puddle on your driveway, it leaves behind this crusty trail.
Why you shouldn't ignore the crust:
It Only Gets Worse: That crust means the factory seal between the plastic and metal has failed. Over time, vibration and cooling system pressure will turn that small "seep" into a major crack.
The Threat of Overheating: If your radiator suddenly blows a seam while you’re cruising down US-131, you'll lose coolant fast. An overheated engine can warp cylinder heads and blow head gaskets in a matter of minutes.
Low Fluid Levels: Even a slow leak will eventually drop your coolant level down, leaving your cabin heater blowing cold air and your engine running dangerously hot.
The Hank’s Solution:
During every routine service or oil change, we do a visual inspection of your entire cooling system—checking the radiator seams, water pump weep holes, and coolant hoses. Catching a failing radiator while it's just "seeping" saves you from a costly breakdown and a tow truck bill later.
If you smell a sweet aroma under the hood after driving, or spot some mysterious pink crust on your engine components, let the team at Hank's take a look!

Modern vehicles require a mix of high-level diagnostics, specialized fabrication, and bulletproof mechanical repairs. Here is a look at what just rolled out of our service bays:
1. Valve Springs & Top-End Performance 🛠️🔥
The last photo shows an engine with the valve cover removed, exposing a perfectly aligned row of high-tension valve springs and the valvetrain assembly.
The Job: When you have a broken valve spring or are upgrading your cylinder heads, precision is everything. A failing spring can cause severe engine misfires, lost compression, or catastrophic engine damage if a valve drops into the cylinder. We inspect, torque, and seal the top end to restore complete performance.

The Hank’s Promise:
Whether we are digging into your engine block, custom-welding your exhaust, or chasing down stubborn fluid leaks, we take the extra time to do it right the first time. We use premium replacement hardware that stands up to West Michigan's demanding driving conditions.
Is your engine ticking, leaking fluid, or sounding a little too loud? Skip the guesswork and let the pros handle it!
