Great info and tips from our fellow Rangers in the great state of Texas!
Buying or already purchased a used unit? (They may have claimed it was professionally cleaned if bought at dealers, but ask how as dealerships typically just fill, add treatment products for 24 hrs, and dump it, not a professional cleaning).
Has your rig sat for long periods of time without use including winter? Do you do any boondocking? Even if you are a seasonal lot RVer or just an occasional weekend warrior! Over time (and its sometimes worse depending on your usage), build up and hardened materials on the bottom and below the lip of your tank opening will occur regardless of how good your maintenance techniques are. This can increase odors, send sensors to lala land as far as accuracy, start to cause malfunctioning valves, and increase the odds of a clog or dreaded 💩💩💩 pyramid.
That's why at least one annual professional RV tank maintenance cleaning is recommended. (you may need twice a year with heavy usage or inability to properly backflush ie: boondocking or long stays using honey pot or just dumping at dump station on departure).

“Baby wipes don’t break down… and this is proof.”
This morning we serviced an RV that sat 2–3 years with a full tank.
What came out?
Baby wipes. Tin foil. Plastic. A tampon applicator.
👉 The wipes? Still fully intact.
Not broken down. Not dissolved. Just sitting there waiting to cause problems.
Here’s the part most people don’t realize:
RV systems are not like residential plumbing — they can’t handle anything extra.
Simple rule:
👉 Only waste, toilet paper, plenty of water, and tank treatment go down your tank. Nothing else.
Using a quality tank treatment (like Liquified) also helps break down waste and keep things flowing the way they should.
If you prefer wipes, that’s completely fine — just toss them in a small trash can next to the toilet.
We’re not here to judge — we’re here to help you avoid clogs, bad sensor readings, and expensive repairs.
If your RV has been sitting or you’ve noticed issues, now’s the time to get ahead of it.
