One of the biggest misconceptions in suspension is that a leaking fork seal automatically means the suspension shop did something wrong.

The reality is that’s often not the case.

Any legitimate suspension shop will tell you that damaged lower fork tubes are one of the leading causes of premature fork seal failure. Rock chips, nicks, scratches, or any imperfection in the seal contact area can quickly damage a brand-new seal. This is also why proper fork guard design and protection are so important.

Of course, if a shop overlooks damaged tubes or cuts corners during inspection, that’s a different story. A quality suspension shop should always inspect every component before reassembly.

🚨 KDR Suspension Tech Spotlight: Deja Moto WP CC Spring Seats 🚨

Just because your bike is brand new doesn’t mean the suspension is set up correctly. In fact, we see issues straight from the factory all the time across multiple brands and models.

One problem we’ve been seeing regularly is with the WP Closed Cartridge spring forks. From the factory, many of them come with little to no spring preload, which can lead to the OEM plastic spring seats shattering over time.

When these fail, plastic debris ends up throughout the forks and can cause the forks to lock down similar to a failed air fork setup — definitely not something you want happening during a race or deep out on the trail.
