Neglecting fluid changes is the silent killer of vehicles. This visual guide from "Auto Mechanics Center" outlines the six essential fluids that keep your car running, along with their recommended service intervals:

1. The Engine's Blood (Engine Oil)

Interval: Change every 5,000 - 10,000 km.

Why: This is the most critical maintenance task. Fresh oil lubricates moving parts, reduces friction, and carries away heat. Old oil turns into sludge, leading to catastrophic engine failure.

2. Temperature Control (Coolant/Antifreeze)

Interval: Change every 2 to 5 years.

Why: Coolant prevents your engine from overheating in summer and freezing in winter. Over time, its anti-corrosion additives break down, allowing rust to form inside the radiator and engine block.

3. Stopping Power (Brake Fluid)

Interval: Change every 2 years.

Why: Brake fluid attracts moisture. As water content increases, the boiling point drops. Under heavy braking, this water can boil, creating gas bubbles that result in total brake failure (spongy pedal).

4. Smooth Operations (Transmission & Steering)

Transmission Fluid: Change every 60,000 - 80,000 km. Vital for smooth gear shifts and protecting the gearbox internals.

Power Steering Fluid: Change every 60,000 - 100,000 km. Ensures the steering remains light and protects the power steering pump and rack.

5. Visibility (Windshield Washer Fluid)

Interval: Check and refill periodically.

Why: Often overlooked until you need it most. Keeping this full ensures you can clear mud, bugs, or salt from your windshield for safe driving.

At Auto Mechanics Center, we recommend checking your owner's manual for specific viscosity grades and capacities for your specific vehicle model

Sensors That Trigger the Check Engine Light

Advanced Explanation with OBD-II Codes

Modern ECUs constantly monitor sensor signals. If a value is out of range, irrational, or missing, the ECU stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and turns ON the Check Engine Light (MIL).

1️⃣ Oxygen (O2) Sensor

📌 Monitors exhaust oxygen to control air-fuel ratio.
⚠️ Failure causes rich/lean mixture → poor mileage & emissions.
Common OBD Codes:

P0130 – P0161 (Circuit fault, slow response, heater failure)

2️⃣ MAP Sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure)

📌 Measures engine load via intake pressure.
⚠️ Wrong signal = incorrect fuel injection & ignition timing.
Common OBD Codes:

P0105 – P0109 (Range / performance / circuit issues)

3️⃣ MAF Sensor (Mass Air Flow)

📌 Measures actual air entering the engine.
⚠️ Dirty or failed MAF causes hesitation & stalling.
Common OBD Codes:

P0100 – P0104 (Signal fault, low/high input)

4️⃣ Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

📌 Tells ECU throttle opening angle.
⚠️ Fault leads to poor acceleration & gear shift issues (AT).
Common OBD Codes:

P0120 – P0124 (Correlation & voltage errors)

5️⃣ Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

📌 Reports engine temperature for cold start & fan control.
⚠️ Wrong data causes hard starting & high fuel consumption.
Common OBD Codes:

P0115 – P0119 (Temperature signal faults)

6️⃣ Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)

📌 Synchronizes fuel injection & ignition timing.
⚠️ Failure may cause misfire or no-start.
Common OBD Codes:

P0340 – P0349 (Cam sensor circuit faults)

7️⃣ Knock Sensor

📌 Detects engine detonation (knocking).
⚠️ ECU retards timing to protect engine → power loss.
Common OBD Codes:

P0325 – P0334 (Knock sensor circuit / performance)

8️⃣ Fuel Pressure Sensor

📌 Monitors fuel rail pressure.
⚠️ Incorrect pressure affects combustion efficiency.
Common OBD Codes:

P0087 – P0093 (Low / high pressure, leaks)

⚠️ Pro Tip (Advanced)

A sensor may be good, but wiring issues, vacuum leaks, or ECU reference voltage faults can still trigger these codes.

👉 Always scan live data, not just read codes.
