Sixty horsepower. That's all it takes.

The Triumph Spitfire 1500 understood something many modern sports cars have forgotten: you do not need huge power to have a great time behind the wheel.

Introduced in 1974, the final evolution of a much-loved formula, it kept the same compact dimensions, low seating position, and unmistakable shape, but gained a larger 1493cc engine with more torque and improved everyday usability.

The numbers still miss the point. The Spitfire has always been about how it makes you feel. The long bonnet stretching ahead, the light steering, the simple mechanical connection between driver and road. The satisfaction of wringing out every last bit of what you have.

Half a century on, the Spitfire 1500 still delivers something increasingly rare: a simple, affordable sports car that demands you get involved.

"I didn’t own a car in high school, but my dad made sure I still drove classics. From a ’50 Chevy pickup to a ’57 Ranchero, he taught me about cars, craftsmanship, and patience in our one-car garage.

Then the surprise of a lifetime: a 1960 Austin Healey 3000 waiting for me one evening. The car needed work, and over that summer, Dad and I stripped, re-chromed, reupholstered, and painted it together.

I learned more than just mechanics. I learned how to turn a neglected car into something magical.
That Healey carried more than me. It carried memories. My future wife rode with me in it, my grandfather’s influence lingered in every restored detail, and it became a bridge between generations. Years later, I replaced it with a ’62 AH 3000 that all three of my sons could enjoy, keeping the family tradition alive."

Restoring and caring for these cars isn’t just about driving. They are living memories, lessons in patience, and connections across generations.

The MGB was never the fastest car on the road.

That is probably one reason so many people still enjoy them.

Introduced in 1962, the MGB arrived at a time when British sports cars were often a little raw around the edges. The MG took a different approach. A modern monocoque body, more cabin space, better weather protection, and manners that made it easy to live with every day.

At its heart was the familiar B-Series engine. Not especially powerful, but full of character. Most owners will tell you the MGB is at its best on a back road, working through the gears rather than chasing outright speed.

It is also a car that seems to suit almost everyone. Some prefer an early chrome-bumper roadster. Others swear by the GT. Ask ten MGB owners what makes the car special and you'll probably get ten different answers.

The MGA 1600 isn’t just an evolution of the MGA. It is the car that perfected the formula.

Launched in 1959, it introduced front disc brakes as standard, a serious performance statement at the time, paired with the 1588cc B-Series engine delivering stronger torque and real-world usability. Nearly 100 mph in period, but more importantly, confidence.
