In this video, we show the electrical bay on a 2021 Tiffin Phaeton where the power cord reel compartment was completely full of water from a leak.

The leak had been checked two or three different times before, but the source was never found. In this video, we finally identified where the water was coming in, showed the exact problem area, and explained how we tracked it down and found the leak.

Today we’re talking about Schwintek slide systems — and why keeping them lubricated, leveled, and properly aligned is so important.

A lot of people don’t realize these slides are extremely sensitive to the box being square. If the coach isn’t level, if the slide box gets skewed, or if the opening is too wide, it can start causing major problems.

We’ll show you what happens when the slide starts racking or twisting. The rails can bind, the motors can get out of sync, and eventually the mechanism can break loose from the wall or damage the tracks.

You’ll also see how improper alignment keeps the rubber seals from fully contacting the coach. When that happens, water, dust, heat, cold air, and moisture can get inside — creating leaks, soft floors, mold, and all kinds of expensive repairs.

Keeping these systems maintained is critical:

* Keep the rails clean
* Use the proper lubricant
* Make sure the coach is level before operating the slide
* Watch for gaps in the seals
* And pay attention to uneven movement before it becomes a major failure

A Schwintek system can work great when everything is square and adjusted properly — but when things get out of alignment, small problems can turn into big damage fast.
