During a general roof inspection, we found this Winegard antenna broken. The customer had no idea it had been damaged. It was located right behind the air conditioner, so it was easy to miss. Most likely, it was struck by a low tree branch or another overhead obstacle.

This is a great reminder of why we recommend inspecting your RV roof at least twice a year. Small issues that go unnoticed can lead to water intrusion, expensive repairs, and unexpected problems down the road.

A simple biannual roof inspection can save thousands in repair costs. Prevention is always less expensive than restoration.

In this video, we’re using denatured alcohol to clean the side of the slide box and remove the residue left behind by deteriorating slide seals. Over time, the old rubber can leave a stubborn film on the surface, and denatured alcohol does an excellent job of removing it.

One of the biggest causes of premature slide seal deterioration is the use of slide seal protectants and conditioners. While they may seem like a good idea, we’ve found they often accelerate the breakdown of the rubber and leave behind this sticky residue.

Our recommendation is simple: clean your slide seals regularly with mild soap and water, and once a year, wipe the seals of the slide box with denatured alcohol to remove any dirt. Following this routine will help keep your slide system cleaner and can extend the life of your slide seals.

In this video, we’re replacing a power cord reel. We buy these from Southeast Sales because they have some of the best prices around and fast shipping.

These power cord reels use contact fingers to transfer power. Over time, those contacts wear out and burn, causing an intermittent power connection. A common symptom is having to move the reel backward and forward just to get the power to come on.

Once it gets to that point, it’s time for a replacement. While these reels can technically be rebuilt, it’s not something we do. We don’t believe there’s a safe way to rebuild a worn contact assembly and guarantee reliable operation. The safest and most dependable repair is to replace the entire power cord reel.
