Freer Auto Body was started in 1991 fulfilling the dream of David Michael Freer, then an eighteen year old graduate of Ranken Technical College. A 30 x 50 building was erected and thus Freer Auto Body came to be. In the beginning David’s seventy one year old grandfather, Arnold Freer was his consultant and mentor. David’s mom, Margaret volunteered in the office. The first year was difficult and th

e business was supplemented by income from David’s parents. The business was able to expand in 1992 with a 40’ x 80’ addition. In 1996 we continued to grow and built another 35’ x 80’ building to accommodate our growth and new employees. Tim Freer had been attending SIU but decided he would join his brother in the Freer Auto Body venture. Mike Freer retired in 1997 after serving 31 years with the Federal Government as a procurement analyst and became Freer Auto Body’s head gopher and right-hand man. In 2001 Grandpa Freer passed away but he was able to see how successful his grandsons had become. In 2006 we completely remodeled the office area and constructed a 80'x 90' state of the art new paint facility . All of our construction projects have been labors of love in that they were completed by the hard work of us and our friends. In 2008, we lost our darling David. It was tragic and affected us in so many different ways. We had to pull ourselves together and carry on as that is what David would have wanted us to do. Tim assumed the role as president and Carrie Freer joined the staff. Today we have over 17,000 square feet of operating space, and besides the Freer family we have 17 full-time employees and one part-time employee. We have never forgotten our meager beginnings and attribute our success not only to hard work but to a community that has embraced and supported us.
