When your low tire pressure light comes on, it is your vehicle’s way of telling you something needs attention.

Start by checking your tire pressure with a reliable gauge. On many newer vehicles, you may also be able to view individual tire pressure readings in the vehicle’s information or message center.

If one tire is much lower than the others, looks nearly flat, or is completely flat, do not keep driving on it. Driving on a flat tire is dangerous and can turn an otherwise inconvenient issue into a costly repair by damaging the tire, wheel, and other components.

Take a moment to look for obvious signs of damage, including nails, screws, cuts, sidewall bulges, cracks, or anything lodged in the tread. If the tire needs to come off, make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat, stable surface, use the correct jack points, and follow the instructions in your owner’s manual.

If the wheel does not come loose easily after the lug nuts are removed, do not force it. Corrosion can sometimes cause a wheel to stick to the hub, and the right tools and experience make the job safer and easier.
