So here is the short version, and then we will let you get back to your afternoon. If something happens this week, take photos before anything moves. Get the other driver's insurance info, not just their phone number. And know that the shop your insurance suggests is a suggestion, not a requirement. You pick where your car gets repaired.

Saturday errands are undefeated against rear bumpers. 🛒

Grocery store lots are tight, everyone is backing out at once, and the cart return is always exactly where you want to park. Most of what comes through our doors on a Monday started as a two second Saturday afternoon.

Back in when you can. Give the cart corral a wide berth. And if something does happen, it is usually far more fixable than it looks in the parking lot.

The temperature outside is not the temperature inside.

With this week's heat settling in across a good part of the country, it's worth repeating something most people underestimate. A parked car can climb roughly 20 degrees in the first 10 minutes, and it keeps climbing from there. Cracking a window barely slows it down.

A child's body heats up several times faster than an adult's, which means the math gets dangerous long before it feels dangerous to you.

So the rule is simple. No child stays alone in a vehicle. Not while you run one errand. Not while you grab one thing.

Build the habit of checking the back seat every time you park, even when you're certain it's empty. Certainty is exactly how these things happen.
