So I do not know how to say this without sounding rude but as of today I will no longer be accepting Venmo for payments. Yesterday there was a Venmo issue that caused a customer to over pay. This caused the initiation of a refund but the fees charged were non refundable.
This morning I found an email from Venmo stating that they decided to automatically change my settings to allow tipping. However last night when I found the error was from a significant, unauthorized tip, I verified tipping was disabled (as it had been since I created the account). The email came 4 hours after discovering the issue and 6 hours after the payment was initially received.
I contacted Venmo directly to inquire why they felt the need to change my settings. Their response was it is an automatic thing that I cannot opt out of. They refuse to return the fees from the transaction, I have a customer unhappy with me, and I have no control over the situation.
I don’t play that way. I recognize this will make things a bit less convenient for some folks but Venmo clearly does not share my standard of quality. Thank you for understanding.
