Fall Is Coming—Is Your Vehicle Ready for the Change?
September brings cooler mornings, earlier sunsets, school traffic, and changing road conditions across Northwest Ohio. It is a good time to look beyond today’s weather and prepare your vehicle for the colder months ahead.

Five Smart Checks for Early Fall
1. Battery and charging system
Summer heat can weaken a battery, while cooler temperatures require more starting power. A battery may appear to work normally and still be approaching the end of its dependable service life. Testing the battery and charging system now can help identify declining performance before the first cold morning.
2. Tire pressure and tread
As outdoor temperatures fall, tire pressure also drops. Check pressure when the tires are cold and use the specification on the driver’s door-jamb label—not the maximum pressure printed on the tire.
Tread depth and wear pattern matter, too. Uneven wear can point to an alignment, steering, or suspension concern that should be inspected.
3. Cooling-system condition
Coolant protects the engine throughout the year. It must transfer heat during warm weather and resist freezing when winter arrives. The coolant level, freeze protection, hoses, radiator, water pump, and system condition should be checked for leaks or deterioration.
4. Brakes and brake fluid
Wet leaves, rain, and colder weather make dependable braking especially important. Pay attention to squeaking, grinding, pulling, vibration, a soft pedal, or increased stopping distance.
A proper brake inspection measures the friction material and rotors, checks caliper operation, and evaluates the condition of the brake fluid before repairs are recommended.
5. Lights, wipers, and visibility
With daylight hours getting shorter, working headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers become increasingly important. Worn wiper blades, weak washer spray, or a poorly operating defroster can also reduce visibility during fall rain and cooler mornings.
