🔧 Today in the shop: 2021 3.0L Duramax — #5 glow plug replacement!

💡 Fun fact: The 3.0L Duramax is an inline-six diesel, which gives it naturally smooth operation and a strong, steady torque delivery. And unlike the bigger 6.6L Duramax V8, this little Duramax packs six cylinders in a straight line!

Today we tackled a failed #5 glow plug. After diagnosing the issue and confirming the #5 glow plug was the culprit, we removed the old plug and installed the replacement.

Glow plugs might be small, but they play a big role in a diesel engine. They provide heat inside the cylinder to help with combustion during startup—especially when the engine is cold.

🔥 THREE S&S DCR CONVERSIONS IN SEPTEMBER! 🔥

We knocked out three S&S Diesel Motorsport DCR conversions on 6.7L Power Strokes this past month, and after installing these kits and seeing them perform firsthand, we can say we absolutely love this setup.

If you own a 6.7 Power Stroke, you already know the CP4 is one of the biggest concerns hanging over an otherwise extremely capable platform. A CP4 failure can turn into a whole lot more than just replacing a pump — once metal contamination gets sent through the high-pressure fuel system, the repair bill can get ugly FAST.

That’s why we’re such big fans of the S&S Diesel Motorsport DCR conversion.

Instead of trying to contain the damage if the CP4 fails, the DCR conversion gets rid of the CP4 altogether and replaces it with a more durable two-piston high-pressure pump engineered specifically for the 6.7 Power Stroke.

❄️ COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM REPLACEMENT ❄️

This 2015 Ford F-350 came to BAR N SERVICES with a leaking evaporator core and a failed A/C compressor. Because compressor failure can send metal and debris throughout the system, we replaced the entire A/C system to prevent another failure.

Replacing an evaporator core is no quick job. The refrigerant and coolant must first be safely removed, followed by the center console, dashboard, steering-column components, wiring connections and HVAC housing. Once the HVAC box is removed from the cab, it must be carefully opened to access and replace the evaporator core.

We then replaced the remaining damaged A/C components, flushed the reusable lines, reassembled the interior, vacuum-tested the system for leaks and recharged it to factory specifications.

It’s a time-consuming repair, but doing every step correctly ensures cold, dependable A/C—especially in this South Texas heat!
