"Community is built on trust, mutual respect, and the understanding that we all have responsibilities toward one another. In Lincoln County, we should strive to work together and support each other, but lately, I’ve been faced with an issue that makes me question the actions of some within our community.
For too long, people have been dropping off cats at my property, leaving me to deal with the consequences of their choices. This behavior is not just irresponsible, it's disrespectful. Abandoning animals for someone else to care for is not part of what it means to be a community.
I've lived in Lincoln County for 12 years. In that time, I've come to care deeply for the cats in Genoa, often at a significant personal cost. I bleed—literally—for them, moving them to safety, buying them food, and covering hundreds of dollars in vet bills. I have taken on this responsibility, and I protect these little creatures.
To those in the community who have been vocal but unhelpful, causing more harm than good: I am weary of your opinions that do not contribute to solutions. Your words have weight, but they also need to bring about positive change. Let's focus on actions that genuinely support our shared environment, rather than empty criticisms. Let’s commit to being better neighbors and ensuring that we act with care and responsibility toward each other—and the animals in our care.
I'm over this subject. Your comments are not welcome. You’re not here dealing with the issue. The best you can all do is to think about something other than yourselves and ask… what I can literally do to help these creatures live.
