Graveside services for Wanda Lee Byron, 91, of Gainesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Mrs. Byron died Dec. 3 in her daughter's home in Gainesville, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born May 30, 1930, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jesse and Florence Harper Mahan. She loved holidays and her grandchildren dearly. She was a sweet lady who never knew a stranger. Anyone who entered her home was embraced with loved and sent home with some sort of food item. She gave the best hugs.
She was very supportive and always shared her faith with everyone. She always encouraged her grandkids to follow their dreams and trust in the Lord. She was one of a kind and will be truly missed.
She is survived by her children, Letitia “Letty” Barron of Gainesville, David Wayne Byron of Ozark and John Michael Byron of Sparks, Nevada; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Mahan and wife Carlene of Gainesville; one sister, Winonah Henning of Gainesville; and several extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, John Gregory Byron; and five siblings, Verl Mahan, Muriel Hale, Fern Leek, Marylou Myers and Shirley Garrison.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riverways Hospice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at the funeral home.
