We can’t stress enough, be careful who you allow to do repairs on your automobile. The owner of this Chevrolet Cruze had a local shop replace the valve cover gasket a few months ago. Unfortunately, they over torqued the bolts causing thread damage to multiple hold down bolt holes.
She had the job done a second time by someone else, and it still leaked. After paying two different mechanics to attempt to repair her leak, she came to us. Luckily it was an easy fix. However, the time, money, and oily mess she had to deal with would have been easily avoided had they used a high quality torque wrench to avoid thread damage.
Get it done right the first time... Get it DONE at King’s.

Finished up this Supercharged Range Rover last week. It was throwing a code for a lean condition. After verifying the data we determined it was only with throttle closed. We ran a smoke test on induction and noticed a small amount of leakage at the PCV valves.

We called Land Rover to see how much they would charge and they didn't want to give an estimate. They said, "That's a complicated beast". The customer decided to have us take a crack at it and I'm happy to report, no more lean condition.

This 2003 Ford F-350 started having overheating issues and showed up here. We started simple and put a thermostat in it, but the vehicle still had overheating issues. Upon running numerous other tests we found he was getting combustible gas into the cooling system so we had to pull the cylinder heads and resurface due to warpage.

After reassembly we still had an overheating condition. We had already pulled water pump and inspected for impeller slippage/integrity, cleaned air coolers (externally), checked airflow, & ran temperature drop testing. So we came to the conclusion we had a restriction in the radiator even though it would drop temp properly after we would run the test in the shop. Turns out another shop had loaded this thing up with stop leak.

DO NOT use STOP LEAK!!! Unless you are in an extreme emergency just pay to get it fixed right and you will save yourself money. New injector sleeves going into the heads in the photo.

We got rid of this beauty after quite awhile of restoration work. Almost sad to see it go. It was placed in storage in 1963 and sat until we received it. It required a lot of TLC, but it is amazing how smooth the engine ran with minimal repair work (internally). I floated it down to the river after it had been raining a few months back and snapped these photos. Soooo smooth.

Direct, or distributorless, ignition systems are no longer brand-new, cutting-edge technology. As a matter of fact, they’ve become the “conventional” ignitions of the 1990s. The first systems appeared on the Buick 3.8-liter V6 in 1983. Today, DIS is mainstream technology, appearing on most new...

We had a customer come in this past week with a wiring problem on his Audi A6. He had been to the dealer where they provided him an estimate of $1000 to repair his wiring. Upon inspection we found that a rodent had crawled on top of the engine splash guard and chewed numerous wires.

We actually see this quite a bit. When manufacturing wiring, there is a chemical release process that takes place. The manufacturers soak the insulation in peanut oil in the process. So squirrels and mice love chewing on this stuff!

We were able to perform the repairs on the Audi by soldering the wiring and using high quality, weather tight, heat-shrink. Also, the cost to the customer was substantially less at $350!

This vehicle came in with an overheating issue. The customer had the thermostat replaced and we knew that the radiator had been replaced. The upper hose was hot when it was overheating while the lower was cool.

We knew it was a circulation issue so the customer opted to have us pull the pump and inspect it, which was not the easiest task on this vehicle. Upon inspection of the pump everything looked great. However, behind the pump there was a problem. Whoever installed the thermostat put it in upside down.

We notified the customer and they decided to go ahead and have us install the new pump, timing belt, and reorient the thermostat. The moral of the story is get it done right the first time and save yourself some cash, and if you are a DIYer, remember the spring always goes towards the engine ;-)
