The University of Florida has partnered with Santa Fe College and the University of Singapore to enter in to the Solar Decathlon, an international collegiate competition that challenges teams to design, build, and operate a solar-operated home. We are also involving Habitat for Humanity in an effort to donate the home to a family after the competition. The Solar Decathlon aims to educate the publi
c about cost-effective and environmental benefits associated with green energy products and smart design solutions. It also provides students with a unique experience that will encourage sustainability practices when entering the work force. The competition will take place on October 8th to October 18th 2015, in Irvine County, California. As all teams are student run, the Solar Decathlon is heavily dependent on
corporate and private sponsorship opportunities. We are still in the beginning phase of our journey and have limited sponsors at the moment. Companies that have already agreed to participate include Fiat and Bosch. All funds go through the University of Florida Foundation which is a non-profit organization.
