I just tested something most drivers assume is true but turns out to be completely wrong.
Factory tinted windows (the ones that come standard on most SUVs and newer cars) feel like they're protecting you from UV radiation.
They look dark. They provide privacy. They must be blocking UV, right?
I used a UV meter to actually measure what's getting through.
Factory clear glass allows 75% of UV to pass through. Factory privacy glass (that darker tint on rear windows) only blocks 88%, still letting 12% through.
Then I measured professionally tinted glass, which blocked 99.9%.
That's not a small difference. That's the difference between significant daily UV exposure and virtually complete protection.
Why does this matter? 3 reasons.
First, UV damage to your skin accumulates with every commute, every school pickup, every errand.
Second, UV destroys your interior by fading leather, cracking dashboards, deteriorating surfaces that cost serious money to repair or replace.
Third, UV creates heat, making your AC work harder and reducing fuel efficiency.
Most people think factory tint is enough. The data shows it's barely helping.
Professional window tint isn't just cosmetic. It's legitimate protective technology that shields you and your investment from cumulative damage happening every time you drive.
