Fremont was founded on the Vistula Trail (now Indiana State Road 120) which was originally a Native American Trail that ran from Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through South Bend, Indiana, and around the south shores of Lake Michigan to Green Bay, Wisconsin.
