Venting time…….
Dear Dodge/Stallantis,
You and I need to chat. Specifically about your 2019-2021 Ram 1500 trucks. I recently had a 2020 brought in for water in the rear floorboard. I did my due diligence and removed the rear seat so I could access the substructure and look for water trails to help figure out where the issue is. I found several indicators of water leaking down from the rear window. Stuff happens, I get it. So, I look for a solution. These are trucks that cost a significant amount of money and have very loyal buyers, so I assume you would want to offer a solution that would respect those loyal customers and protect your brand. I find TSB 23-016-21 Rev A (See attached pic for reference). Replace rear window, likely covered under warranty. GREAT! I approve! But wait……..there’s more. I look further and see there is ANOTHER TSB related to this……23-042-24 (again, pic for reference) which replaces the previous TSB and now extends the warranty! Well done Dodge, yall are doing great. But wait……this TSB advises now that technicians are no longer to replace the rear window……nope. *breathe……deep breath……* Technicians are now advised to….caulk the rear window…….CAULK……………….THE…….REAR…….WINDOW……..
This cannot be for real. You are a brand that millions are loyal to. When you have been steadily increasing the cost of your trucks to outrageous figures, your loyal customers continue to buy….and you’re fixing water intrusion issues with CAULK?? A quick search of the forums and I see where your loyal customers have had several rear windows replaced and the problem persists so I understand the caulk solution. But I certainly hope this is a temporary solution while you work on a better design and not a permanent fix. That’s just bad business and not how any business should resolve things with loyal customers.
These are expensive trucks. They should not be repaired with caulk……
Sincerely,
